follow-up Continental F162 distributor?

Thank you to the guys who responded earlier about my question. I have removed the distributor and it is a prestolite 1BT 4701C 2Y type. It's shaft is fine & it turns just fine.
Inside the engine, however, the cam drive cog is not turning when I turn the engine over. What is my next move? Is this going to be an involve fix? If so, then I have a spare AC 226 gas engine that I could perhaps swap in place of the continental F162. My forklift is an AC 706.

Is the cam shaft turning or is it to not turning. You may have broken cam or crank gears or even a broken cam shaft. That engine if I remember right was used in the MH30s and a few other tractors also. I have one laying in my shop which is only good for parts of rebuild since it blew #2 piston

I took off the valve tappet cover & turned engine over. The valves all moved, so the cam is turning. The distributor cog is not turning.

Well then maybe the shaft is broken then. It has or should have a short shaft with a gear on the end that messes with the cam shaft and the top of it has a slot that the distributor to sit in. That shaft could be broken or the gear on the end may have a pin in it and the pin broke. Been a long time since I have been into one so just going by foggy memory

???? Allll the valves????
Cam IS turning.
Wrong dist. not reaching down to mesh with the cam???

Olddog, While the engine is being turned over, I looked into the distributor housing hole down inside the block and the COG down near the cam is not turning. The distributor has to be the right one, cause it ran with it just up to yesterday. The distributor & it's extension shaft are fine. Can I get to this cog from the crank pan area?? Is the oil pump connected to this also?

Seen cams snap in half, gear break off front, or dist drive shaft break or gears or dogs strip off too. You can download a free PDF of the Continental L head (flat head) manuals at Wisconsin Motors site to help out. Most NAPA if have a knowledgeable counterman can get Continental parts or google search for them or call montesequipment.com also. Oh your dist prefix is IBT not one BT.

The distributor is driven by a shaft which is driven by a gear on the oil pump. This gear is secured to the oil pump by a pin. To me your best bet is drop the pan and pull the pump and check the pin in the drive gear.
