Recycling center may close

Our local recycling center may close due to very low prices paid for scrap metals. The local paper reported metal prices going from $230 per ton to $15 per ton. And cardboard from $45 per ton to $5.
 
It had to come down sooner or later. Prices got out of hand and even at the local auction. The scrapers were buying up farm stuff like it was going out of style for the junk yard.
 
Just recieved word that our garbage hauler is selling his route to a competitor. Times are tough, the court section of the local paper has a lot of businesses being charged by the state for tax evasion which is something never before seen.
 
Here in Central MO., our rural trash service notified us this summer they were discontinuing pick up due to fuel costs, then this fall the scrap yard closed up. This scrap yard had been in town since back in the 40's. Sign of the times I guess. Now I will set fire to the burnable trash, dig a hole with the D-2 and bury the tin cans, and let the old scrap iron accumulate down over the hill. Dang I love getting all green!!!

What, the state actually going after the crooks instead of living off the honest peoples monies?
 
well at least now i wont have people stopping in here and bugging me to sell them any more old stuff that isnt actually moving at the time,so they can break it up for scrap, had one even wanting to buy " that weird old trailer with the spiral thingy on the back" just because i hadnt moved it in awhile lol
 
Now the nitwit segment of the population will no longer electrocute themselves trying to steal in service wiring.......pity.
 
The metal yadr is still open here. Just not very busy. The paper,cardboard and glass place is closed. Of course it couldn't have anything to do with the owner being a little short on management skills.
 
Yes, several people I knew had metal stolen. In fact just down this gravel road. They went in the house and picked it clean of metal. The guy that owned the place had tools there and other equiptment also taken. He was remodeling the house
