I just bought a 1955 Ford 640 tractor the clutch was stuck to the flywheel so I split the tractor and removed the clutch and pressure plate and release bearing and pilot bearing. The clutch had grease or oil on it so I removed the flywheel and resurface it .Now the question is I want to replace the transmission input shaft gasket and seal and also the lower bearing cap gasket. Is it possible to remove the seal retainer which the release bearing slides on without removing the input shaft?

The input shaft comes rite out no problem,,,,actually it will fall out once the retainer is take'n loose,,,, I would not fudge with the lower bearing cap gasket my self,,, the counter is gonna fall down and B hard to git back up but can B done with the shift cover off,,, mite take a rope around it to pick it up.

Let me put this another way,,, oil leak'n from the lower bearing cap will not git on the clutch if the oil drain is open in the case

I have a ford 640 I read in my manuel that the exhaust valves rotate when runing what is the reason for them needing to rotate?
