pro's vs con's of 3 rib fronts and 5 rib fronts


3 ribs on the front of my loader tractor dig bad when making sharp turns. Using turning brakes helps some. I would be willing to try 5 ribs if I could get them.

I have 5 rib on the front of my 25520 with a loader. They work fine. The 3 rib tear the ground and grass with a loader. I would recommend the 5 ribs personally. Bob
 
Both work well but as they get older,the three rib tends to crack around the center rib and can even break loose when turning with heavy load on front end
 
Put them both on scales. In my opinion the 3 rib will weigh more and give longer life. I put 4 rib on IHC 986 and found the 3 rib here heavier.
 
3 rib for turning traction. 5 rib for lawns.
In any case loaders inflict increased wear on any front tire. You can't purchase too HD or too many plies.
 
I faced the same question on my 706. Tire man suggested 10 ply anhydrous tank wagon tires, they are smooth and don't tear up the hay feild. Needed wider rims but overall I'm very happy with them. Have a big loader on that tractor too, no problems so far. The link is for picture only, I think mine are rated twice what that tire is.

Depends on what else your doing with the tractor.
The tri rib was all there was years ago, but then all farming was done in plowing disking chiseling etc. You need a tri rib in deep soft loose dirt to get enough grab to make a sharp headland turn. Nowdays everything is no till and the ground is firm. A five rib may be fine for that kind of farming. Most tractors of the past generation are too small for the field and are finding a second career as a loader tractor and changing to a four or five rib is fine for most loader situations. On hard ground, all the tractor/loader/material weight rides on the center rib on a tri rib which isn't what it was designed for.
