OT..Bolt removal

Can you raise the bolt and look in the chamber? If not, take it to a safe, legal place, THEN with safety off, pull trigger. I'm betting there is either a live or spent round in there.

If you have an empty chamber, and cannot remove the bolt from the action, yes, point in a safe direction and dry fire so rifle isn't cocked. Then rotate bolt open, and depress the cocking indicator lever (right side of action) and the bolt should slide out easily.

Look in the barrel on the end where the hole is, and pull the trigger -- if there's some thing in it -- you will see it clear itself in no time....

assuming you have the bolt back & want to remove it from the rifle? Is the safety off? Make sure it is. The model of the Savage & the age of the rifle will also make a difference. On some models hold the trigger back with one hand & pull the bolt out with the other. Sometimes press down on the movable parts at the bottom of the chamber in front of the pulled-back bolt to release the bolt.
