Trees are popping off all around from the weight of the ice. Running off of generator. Wireless net still works. Landline phone out.

Geez,,Where Ya' at man... Thats a terrible Sound , I'm here in N. Ga But a few Times I have heard that Huge Pines sounding like Shotguns going off!!But that was a few Yrs ago, hang in there and Be safe, at least You have something to pass the Time,. like Chatting with Us! LOL Larry KF4LKU

We've been through a few ice storms her in the past, that was before generators were affordable and wireless communication. Hang in there, good luck.

I am in central KY,close to Winchester, KY.
GeorgeKY is in it too.

I have enough genny gas for about 3-4 days if I siphon the vehicles dry.

Little Briggs, keep on running please.

Better than most around, lucky it is not too cold around 30, but about 6-8 more hours of freezing rain.

BANG! There popped off another tree. wonder if I will have any left after this...

That is something we"ve never had here, and I don"t miss it. Just like hurricanes. OK, we have tornadoes, I"ve been in one. You guys wonder how we put up with the cold- this month we have not seen anything above 30 degrees, but have had almost a week when it was always below zero, and bottomed out over 30 below. We"re used to it, but I would not like icy roads, trees, buildings, yards, etc. Would rather have the snow and cold. To each his own, huh?

how is georgeky doing?? havent seen him posting much, getting a little worried, is he doing ok??

Still had electricty when I left for work about 5:30. A few small limbs in the yard. A big oak limb fell right after I drove under it on HWY 41A. Power was off here at work all after noon and came on right before I got here. Every thing seems to be ok now but I am sure not looking forward to check'n fences and feed'n in the morning.

I am between Henderson and Madisonville KY.

Good luck to all who are in this mess!

Dave

Icing in Dallas, too. James and I didn't go to work today and won't go in tomorrow. Anything above ground has a sheet of ice on it.

Temps about 30 now (8:00) and supposed to hit upper 20's by morning.

Yup,I hear ya!Gonna hit us tomorrow morning.News says get ready for bout 18 in of the white stuff.Snowmachines re all gassed up so I guess ill be able to get to the store ifn I have to. Hoss

We had a similar ice storm in 76. We went without power for 8 days. The first night we used a gas trash pump to pump our sump every 1/2 hour. When you went outside to start up, it was like rifle shots as the trees snapped off in the distance. Back then not a lot of homeowners had generators and there weren't any Lowes or Home Depots.
Some neighborhoods had power. I remember our entrance wire was about 2 inches in diameter with ice build up. We found out that some of the country folk went out during the night and fired their shotguns into the air near the trees and the resulting shock dropped the ice off, so they didn't break.

I am not sure how George is doing. Not his name btw. I need to check on the boy. He only lives about 5 miles from me. I need to get an old IH sickle mower ovewr to him.

You are having a heat wave then, it was eight below zero this morning with about four inches of light snow here in northern colorado.

Makes you sick doesn't it just sitting there listening to your world fall down around you. I feel for you, we had it I think 2001 just south of Kansas City. I saw it on the radar this afternoon, and my dad just came from San Antonio last night. Not a little storm. Freezing rain from west of Kansas to the east coast.
Hope you are not an insurance company or in the timber industry. One more problem the economy does not need.
James

I dread daylight. I know I will be cleaning stuff up for months....
Firewood I guess...

For those not familiar with ice buildup in ice storms, remember, ICE IS HEAVY--watch out for your eqpmt etc shed roofs, some may need bracing to bear the loads. If in an old house with a low gable roof without any bracing onto load bearing walls, might not hurt to check the attic every so often, either. Good luck, and best wishes.

I hear ya, hope it stops before long. Im just south of Frankfort, KY. So far power is still on. RECC at least keeps the right of ways clear around here. My s.o. lives in Richmond, looks like they are getting the brunt of it. On her street alone there are 3 KU power poles broken. I'm heading out in the morning with a gen set, log chains, and a chain saw. She and her sister live side by side and I want to save their freezers if I can. Got to head out early to feed and probably break ice on the waterers. We've got right at an inch of ice here, and raining now.

We caught a little of the ice but not like y'all have.We got just enough to make the roads slicker than snot on a clfs nose but the temp is 5 degrees and expected to drop more before the night is over. They say it is supposed to warm up to around 50 tomorrow BUT you know the weather people.LOL

Yeah if the power is not on by midday tomorrow I will have to break out a roll of 12-2 and make a cord to run next door to run their water pump and freezer.

UPDATE:

1:55 am here and I just finished cutting up a tree that fell accross the road in front of the house....
Well I cut up the part that was blocking the road. And freezing rain still falliing.

Saw the radar--looked like you all in KY were getting hit hard.
I feel for you.
I'm a little farther north in IL--just snow for us, very lucky.
Ice is the worst...

Would you trade it for our 12 below zero, in
Wisconsin this morning?
Those cracked trees will be refruge for bugs,
and,in the future, woodpeckers will thrive!
Mother nature takes care of her own!

SNAFU ,.... Southern INDIANA ...... Listened for a minute today and counted 6 trees crackin up all around and giving it up , started in the middle of the nite Still happening at that rate!!! , What IKE did 'nt Bust up Sept14 , is getting another dose today ..last month walked the woods with logger . We have timber needs to come out ,,........... If You have this weather in your area Be careful not to drive under Wires and trees when doing necessary feeding you never know what breakin point is .... Nearly everyone has a power outage here .We are lucky Ours has only interrupted flicker flash .

nuther update.

Still on Genny. Freezing rain finally turned into snow just a few minutes ago.

Jim, here in the northern part of the county the wife and I were startled out of bed this morning by a HUGE crashing sound, but it must've been in the woods behind the house because none of the trees in the yard have come down...yet.

Phone [landline] wnet out before midnight last night, and electricity shortly thereafter. Power came back on in about 2 hours, and the phone was working by 9 am.

IH2444,

I like your comment " Little Brigss keep on running please" I was the same way two years ago when we had our big ice storm. My Little Briggs was a 11 hp/5000 watt Winco. The only good thing was the tank it was connected to was a half full 250 gallon LP tank. Ran the genny 6 days. Check the oil 6 times as I was running Mobile One 10W-30 seeing no oil usage, the last four days I only checked the oil twice. I caught myself wakinup in the middle of the night listening for any hick-upsin the generator sound.
