If you are (or someone you know is) having serious issues with keeping a rural way of life, The University of Minnesota has a booklet called Loosing a way of life Ambiguous loss in Farm Families. The announcement indicates its applicability to reassure those on the edge in these times. (just passing it on)

Thanks Jim, great suggestion. I think too much maybe, but have thought a lot about things I remember from being around my grandparents. They still did a lot of things like they always had say back in the early 1900's. My sons on the other hand spent a lot of time with my dad, who kept up some of the old ways and I am sure my older son especially remembers some, sadly, not all my dad taught/showed him.

I was wondering the other day if I could still remember how to make a whistle out of a maple limb the way my dad showed me.

It's just a shame that people tell you you "can't do it that way" because it won't work.
