foggy tachometer face

Hi Guys, I did a really dumb thing, had a couple of dried paint drops on the clear plastic face of my tachometer. So in my infinite wisdom used a squirt of carb cleaner, wiped it and now the can hardly see through it. Anyway of maybe polishing it out or something? Oh, and the good news is, it didn't remove the paint drops either. Dave

How about one of the kits they use for polishing the plastic headlight lenses on autos?

I use a plastic cleaner made by Permatex. Squirt some on and buff it.

Many years ago I had a plastic screen on a TV get scuffed up while moving. I took it to a TV shop and they polished it with a product called "Jeweler's rouge" I don't know if they still use it or where you might get it. Maybe a jewelery shop.

Gene Davis has it right. There are several plastic polishing pastes around. If it is very rough, it might even need to be smoothed with 800 grit paper and a flat disk to support it. Craft stores also sell plastic polish. Do not buff it with a power tool, it will over do it and make it optically wavy. JimN

A motorcycle shop will have a polish for the helmet face shields and faring windshields.

Those plastic headlight kits (about $20 at walmart and auto parts stores) work on headlights. They basically use a blue, fine grit wet/dry (probably 800) sand paper to sand it all clean, then apply the polish primer, then sand again, then apply the polish.

You might get by trying the sand paper first.

Brasso does a pretty decent job, of polishing plastic, Also Works to buff out Wiper marks in Windshields, looks Real Good! Larry KF4LKU

I did the same thing to a lens on a favorite flashlight. Fixed it good and clear as new with Dremel small cloth wheel and the Dremel red rougue. It is like jewelers use to polish watch crystals. Tom
