O/T My friends Truck Problems

I have a old friend who is always losing something. Now he can't find his truck keys. It's a 90 Ford F150. How hard is it to replace the lock cylinder and keys. Thanks Stan

1990 is too old to get the key code by vin number. If he bought the truck new and the dealer is still in business, they may still have the file from when the truck was sold and it may have the key code. Most auto parts stores can get lock cylinder kits. A slide hammer with a screw can be threaded into the lock and pull it easily. The lock is retained by a small pin that can be drilled easily if you don't have a slide hammer. Look for a hole about the size of an ice pick.

Any competent lock smith should be able to do it for less than a hundred with mileage(make a set of keys) You do really have to be careful with some of the newer stuff through, a 08 Toyota Avolon a new key will cost you, this is not a misprint $1,5000.00, you must but a new computer for the key (lock smith=little brother)

One time a family member accidentally took the set of keys home for our 1993 T-Bird and we were about 100 miles from home. My son said to look in the glove box in the packet with the owners manual and sure enough there was a plastic key in there and it started the engine.

Locksmith would be cheaper and a lot less headache. Believe you have to pull the steering wheel .

Ask your question over on this website, or do a search. You'll get some real good help and maybe even some step by step instructions.

as others have said just call a competent locksmith and have one made, then take a tip from me, i have the same problem with keys, make 6 sets of keys, give 1 set to the wife, then tape one set to the upper left corner of the bathroom mirror, then you'll always know where at least 1 set is, the worst thing about this key problem is reaching in your pocket and actually finding a set of keys, except you didnt have this set yesterday, these keys dont fit anything you own...

If you just call the MFG and have the vin they can have a locksmith make the keys you will have to show either ownership or drivers license. Did that on GF's grand am 10 years ago when the keys were locked in the car.

dont know about the Fords, but I have replaced several on old Chevy's, not difficult at all and the cylinder assembly was only about 20.00

Call a locksmith.
I dropped my whole ring of keys when I was fifty miles from home so I called the motor club. They paid the service call ($45). I bought the key ($50.
The locksmith had a computerized machine. He checked the pins, ran the info into the computer and cut a perfect key.
The day after I had all the keys duped from the spares I found the ring in the weeds. I now have a key stashed on the truck.

It was actually a friend of mine. My 80 ford doesn't even use a key. That way I never worry about alost key. Stan

I had a customer lose his keys for his 90 E-150 van last fall.I pulled the steering wheel, pulled turn signal switch off to side and hit the small lock pin with a hammer & punch, pulled cylinder and install new cylinder.

New cylinder was 18 bucks and too all of 15 minutes.
