i am about to change the filter and fluid in a 1999 dodge ram 1500 auto trans., anyone know how to get the most fluid out of the torque converter and coolant lines ..???

The flush gets it all out....I don't know if your tranny oil is burnt or not...but I've been told on several occasions just change the oil and filter and no flush because a flush can stir up old gunk in there and cause the tranny to go out..It happened to a friend of mine...I would get an opinion from a Dodge tech or tranny Tech...

Has it been changed 'regularly'? Is there a 'reason' to change it at this time? If it's never been changed and is still working right, I'd keep driving it. Just asking for trouble.......

If you take the truck somewhere to have it done, go to a dodge dealer. That"s the only place that will install the correct fluid ! ( Voice of experience )

I just change mine by dropping the pan and changing the suction filter. Use Mopar fluid and MAKE SURE YOU CHECK LEVEL IN NEUTRAL. NOT IN PARK like a GM.
At least my 1996 says on the stick to check in neutral. If checked in park it will actually be low on fluid.

You maybe able to rig up a hose to hook where the filter goes and stick it in a jug of fluid or temporarly place the pan back on with fluid and let it suck it up to flush out the converter.

Use genuine Dodge, filter, gasket and oil..The oil that Dodge/Chrysler requires stands alone with a special additive...Just like the rest of the gentlemen said good luck

The first time I droped the pan cleansd it and put a new filter in.Second time did the flush.Thrid time did the flush and a new filter. This was on a 2500 Dodge diesel.

They make a plug you can buy. You drill a hole in the converter and the new plug screws right in and replaces the weight of the metal you drilled out.
We always disconnect the cooler lines and just buy a can of that transmission flush in an aresol can and send it on thru. We've had good luck.
