we got her going today!! R aiken came down and we played with her for while.

Carb was a problem. it was off the C, the tractor from hell so of corse its a problem.

We tore that down and cleaned her all up (ok he did and i watched) and got her back on. We went to adjust the valves and found the rocker arms were shot. The first time i put them on, DickL's nice rebuilt set diddnt want to go on, so we threw the orignals back on the tractor. Clearence was supposed to be 10 to 12 thousanths, turned out to be 1/4 inch on two of the valves. New rocker amrs fixed all that.

We took the harvester mag off and put the wico on which diddnt work (snapped 60 degrees too late) so we had to use an old one that rich brought. Started off down the driveway and got a cough and a pop, then she ran for a few seconds, then she took her first real breath of life about 1/2 way up the road just before we got to the driveway. We pulled her up to the garage and worked on the timing and the carb some and then i went for my first B ride. Then she ran out of gas.

The impulse on richs mag doesnt work right, so we hooked her up to the kubota and she started after pulling her about a foot. Drove into the garage, adjusted the valves again and called it a day.

Tomorrow im going to try to get that wico on there. rich or dick said to move the govenor 3 or 4 teeth and try it, so i guess thats what im going to do. I'll get it on there.

Today was a dream come true for me!!!! I can never thank all those who helped with this enough!!! It was incrediable. An old tractor with a brush job and no sheetmetal has never looked better :-D

So now, all i have to do is stick the other mag on there, figure out what the clutch noise is, get the gas tank cleaned and sealed, and take it apart and paint everything right this time. Any day now :-D

Thanks everyone!!!

Ive got a video uploading, but at 277 mb in size, this is going to take a while. I'll post it as soon as its up

Wayyyyy ahead of you :-D

Rich brought out another rear wheel for her!! Shes really just waiting until i can buy her some O-rings and gaskets and rings. Bearings were fine and i allready bought some used pistons and sleeves.

Im an orange guy now!! These things REALLY grow on you!! I cant wait to tear into her. I allready pulled and tore down the engine, its sitting in the garage

That's great news Lanse. A big Thank You to R Aiken for helping you out and to the others that have helped you with parts.

Definatially. Thanks everyone!! This site is so great. Theres no wheres else like it. Thanks everyone :)

great news lance, glad its finally running!!! aint it a good feeling when them old girls finally let go and start up after a long sleep!!! take your time, dont rush, dont do any thing stup... uh i mean dangerous!! you know what i mean!!

glad it's running. not a big fan of a. c.- b my dad almost backed over me with one when I was a kid. we were hooking up a trailer and clutch pedal went past the stop and engaged, back tire was rubbing my back as I was getting out of the way can remember it like yesterday, was 40 years ago

Lanse,
One of the moments you'll remember forever. The first time you get one runnin' is a thrill no one that hasn't done it can relate to. Done it myself several times over the last 35 years and if I ever quit gettin' that kick in the butt, I'll quit restoring them. My best to you.

That's great to hear!!! Have been following your posts and hoped you wouldn't give up. I've torn down and rebuilt more engines than I can count, but it is always a rush when you light the candles the first time. Probably something about making a pile of parts that are strewn all across the workbench go together to become a running engine. Not only are there a lot of mechanical lessons learned when you tackle a project like this, but a lot of life lessons as well. Patience, friendship, perseverance, budgets, etc. to name a few. Keep on keeping on.

Clutch noise? Sounds like you're going to have to split the B now. LoL Just kidding. Aren't you glad you didn't give up on it? You could have bought that JD 4440 that didn't need any work but I bet you can fix the B like new for a little less than $57,000. Dave

Special Thanks to R Aiken, Wish I could have been there Guys like you are few and far in between.

Lance I feel the same excitement as you Now I can get some sleep.--LOL--Glad for ya !!

Lanse,
You owe R aiken a big kiss. Isn't it a wonder what being PATIENT and METHODICAL can do?? I'm pretty sure there was nothing wrong with DickL's head or valve train work, maybe user failure ?? You are a VERY lucky young man; Mag=$350, Head with MAJOR work= $500, block/sleeves/pistons= $500, advice(some taken/some ignored= Priceless!!!

Lanse, I'm proud of you sticking it out! Feels good to hear one fire off after all the busted knuckles and head scratching and hard work, don't it?

That's what makes wrenchin' so rewarding...seeing 'er "make smoke" for the first time, and continue to run on its own, is unlike durn near any other feeling you'll ever experience.

And if you didn't feel that, then you weren't cut out for wrenchin'...period.

A big part of successful wrenchin' is learning what works and what doesn't, but a big sign of maturity is knowing when to ask for help.

Again, congratulations! Your hard work paid off.

Congrats from downunder. My B is still in pieces so you are up on me now.
Great news, good on you for sticking it out - and a few life lessons learned on the way.
God Bless,
Rex

If you click on the video then when it starts to play click it again and on the right click more from chuck then find the one that says something about it running or being alive. I just watched it pretty cool for Rich to drive 75 miles to help Lance out

CONGRATULATIONS YOUNG MAN!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!
Nothin' like giving birth to a piece of old iron!

A lot of us have been following this soap opera and it sure is inspiring to see the punch line
Best of luck in your next episode!

Good job!Its a good thing R aiken helped you out with all of those problems it would have took you a lot longer. Now you know even more about a motor and have a tractor that runs! That noise sounds maybe like a throwout bearing, but have you checked the oil in the transmission? If you havent already done it,you might want to change the oil in the transmission and differential especially if its milky looking.
