Best brand hydraulic pump ?

So if you bought a hydraulic pump could get the best service support and parts on what brand would it be here in the USA ? Don"t mention Parker or Tyrone those are on my S*** list right now! Thanks!

The best pumps?

Each manf is known best for a certain type.

Vane pump---Vickers

Gear pumps---Parker, Vickers, Barnes

Piston pumps--Vickers, Abex Denison,

Geroler----Cant think of any makers anymore.

Do you want a remanufactured pump? Or new.
If you want a new one then Call Sunsource hydraulics in Sterling heights Mich. If you want a rebuilt one then call Western Starr hydraulics in Michigan (dont remember the city) (near Detroit)

There's lots of good pumps that will work on a log splitter. Make sure to have a good filter and that the system is completely clean from the beginning and any new pump should last a long time. Dave

Considering that the whole lot are mostly made in China today, flip a coin...
If you're talking gear pumps, service is not something you really do anyhow. You use it. You toss it when it's used up.
Your best money is spent at the front end with a big suction line and filter/screen. Beyond that I don't think it matters much what name is on the pump.
I've had Plessy/Sauer/Sundstrand/Danfoss pumps in the tractors, Parker, Cessna, Prince, Vickers, Commercial Shearing and probably a few more around... Cavitation will eat any one of them. Quick.
Other than that, they've all lasted quite well.

Quality usually dictates price, you get what you
pay for. If you are going to have vee belt drive,
then a cast iron pump, with roller bearings will
take the side load better than an aluminum one
with bushings. (Most ALL aluminum pumps have
bushings, not bearings). For direct shaft to shaft
drive, then allignment is critical, andmost brands
will do Ok with good filtration--a suction screen,
and 10 micron PROPERLY SIZED return line filter.
My splitter has a 14 HP, 2 cyl Wisconsin, a 5
inch bore cylinder, with a 3-1/3 inch rod and a
Vickers V20 vane pump. The control valve has
1 inch inlet and outlets and 3/4 work ports, and
the return line filter is rated 30 gals per min.
Suction line is 1 inch, all others are 3/4 inch
2 wire hoses. Larger hoses, valve, and filter
give less restriction, thus better flow & speed.
