OT: Seed potato prices

Just needing a reality check..what are you paying for seed potatoes where you live?

I damned near fell over when I found the price of 50 pounds of Yukon Gold potatoes cost $23...here in eastern KY.

I have a friend not too far away...(50 miles) that bought Kennebecs and Pontiac"s for $15-$18 per 50 pounds. Then he tells me a pal of his in Missouri paid $12.

For all I know, seed potatoes might be $2/50 pounds in Maine and Idaho!
 
In columbia tennessee at farm supply store they are .49 cents a pound or 20.00 dollars for 50 pound for all varites.
 
Southern MO, anywhere from 35 to 39 cents per pound, I guess $17.50-19.50 per 50# bag. But most stores that sell them around here are already sold out.

Morgantown Kentucky at Southern States I bought 50# of Kennebec & 50# of Red Pontiac for $18.73 each. Had I bought less than 50 lbs each they would have been almost double the price.
 
reba potatoes( a average round white) is 16-18 dollars a hundredweight by the trailer load plus 4.50 a hundred shiping, yukons are more expensive we buy a few hundred weight of yukons for 13 dollars a fifty plus 2.50 a 50lb bag shiping but thats direct from the grower in maine.
 
Think about these prices. Gurneys Seed Catalog. 2# are 7.95 plus 6.95 for shipping equals $14.90 for 2 pounds of seed. At their cheapest rate for 50# equals $140.63 plus shipping of 15.95 for total of $156.58. And then you have no idea if you will get 1 eye per pound of potato or 20 eyes. They use to sell cut potatoes and you new how buch seed you needed for a 50 foot row, now you have no Idea how much to order.
 
Probly 60 years ago my Mom would scoop the eyes out of the potatos when she was peeling them in the late winter. She dropped them into saw dust I think and planted them when Dad first plowed and fit the truck patch. They always produced nice potatos.
 
28¢ a pound for 3 different varieties at Rural King last night. Guess that would be $14/50 lb.
