Mornin ALL I'm new to the site, but not new to tractors, I'm the proud owner of a 1949 Ferguson TE 20, and my most recent find a 1950 JD"M", and this is no kidding , it was in a shed covered with a tarp ,hasn't been started in at least ten years,,all original good paint and air still in tires, now that I'm thru braggin ( I couldn't help it,,sorry) that brings me to my problem, the pto arms won't come up when I pull the lift lever back, I have the tractor running, in neutral, and the pto lever is engaged, I have added 10W oil to the breather tube located just in front of the seat no response, when I drove the tractor out of the shed when we first started it the lift arms went up and down 2 times,,but not since, I'm wondering if the oil has run out of the suction line to the pump,, and can I apply light air pressure to the breather pipe to maybe push oil up the suction pipe and to the pump to prime it and start it pumping? There is also a small valve like a radiator drain valve under the seat that when opened only oozes oil,,,,any suggestions would be helpfull Thanks Collosse

I'm a 40 guy - the next generation after the M - so take this info at face value.....

The radiator drain is the test cock to see if there is enough oil. If oil comes out, it's full enough.

Make sure you don't have a leak in the suction (big) line.

head the tractor downhill to let gravity put more oil to the pump as a way to help priming.

You can also loosen the line on the output side of the pump with the pump running at full throttle to allow any air to escape in case the pump is cavatating. Check the pump to make sure it doesn't overheat. rw

Those have LIVE hyd. pump ran off the engine frt. cover, so no need to run the pto to get the lift to work.

Make sure the latches on the lower lift arms aren't locked. One on each side. These are halfway up the arms under the tractor rear end.
