repairing plastic fenders

Hey folks,
I need to fix a couple cracks, breaks, and a missing chunk from the skirts on my quad. Looking for a semi easy but lasting way to do it. Is a fiberglass repair kit the way to go, or is there a better way? After the repair, what would be the best paint (brush or spray) The most off road I do is pulling a harrow over a pasture.

Any advise appreciated.

Dave

Cut pieces of 16 gauge sheetmetal and drill holes to accept machine screws. Bond two pieces of plastic together in this way, then just spray over the top of it. No fiddling around with plastic glues and stuff.

I've crafted corners using the metal too.

But really, certain plastics are unrepairable. Fiberglass is repairable, but some hard black plastics are not.

I'm at the end of a 12 hour shift and a little thick headed. You mean just sandwich the damager area between the t pieces of metal you formed?

Use the fiberglass repair kit with the clothlike stuff Dave. Works great. Easy to grind and shape. Can be painted over.

I"ve repaired fenders and such on my quad by drilling holes on either side of the break and using zip ties to stitch the part back together. Use holes the same size or a little bigger than the zip ties you use. I believe most of mine are 3/16 wide by 7" long.

Get a hot plastic repair gun kit. I bought one from ArizonaTool. They have a cheaper kit that is set to repair ATV fenders (80 deg C) and a significantly more expensive kit that you can vary the temp for all plastics. I have a hot air welder from Harbor freight for other plastics so bought the fixed temp ATV kit. They include some welding plastic and a little stainless steel mesh for big tears/missing chunks. Probably will use the Harbor Freight hot air for installing the stainless mesh where I have a piece missing, because you need to heat the area and press the stainless into the existing plastic before you fill.

Ive seen a horrible looking repair where the guy drilled small holes on each side and pulled it together with ty-wraps.I have also seen a saw tooth edge in a plastic RM250 fender gouge a guys legs so deep he almost died.Right in the crotch. There was so much blood when he got out of the hospital I had to ask if he still had all the equipment intact to have children. So dont forget the file.
