ferguson TO20 red light

I have a Ferguson TO20. It has a red light on the dash.

The light has two wires. One is connected to the voltage regulator. The second wire is broken off.

Where should the second wire go?

If it has a generator and this is the charge indicator light, one end will be powered by the "switched" side of the ignition switch, the other lead will go the the terminal marked "ARM" or GEN" on the voltage regulator.

Bob is right. It is basically an idiot light.

The light should glow when the ign switch is turned on. Current will flow thru the bulb and down to the generator thru it's armature and to ground. Once the generator starts to charge the current will flow the other way from the armature back to the light. The bulb will have 12 volts on both sides of it and the bulb goes out.

It's like having weights of the same weight on a balance beam. There's no movement.

I was thinking the light would go out if the generator was working.

Didn't know where to connect the loose wire.

The original switch has been replaced with a common push-pull switch.

The tractor is six volt instead of twelve.

Thank you.
