I Have 2 hydrostatic tractors, Foot operated peddles on the right. I have problem operating them for more than a couple of hours at a time because of my right knee. It aches on the left side of the joint. It keeps me awake at night. Now my big toe feels like is drawing up and hurts when I walk. It doesen't matter what I do in the daytime, I can set around all day, It hurts more at night when I am lying down than in the daytime. Anybody have a similiar experience?

We have two hydrostats, a 20hp with a lever and a 24hp with a foot pedal. The one with the foot pedal has a lock to lock it at a particular setting so you don't have to have your foot on the pedal all the time. (They actually call it cruise control). Does yours have the same?

I prefer the one with the lever, and my wife prefers the one with the pedal. Which is OK, 'cause she uses that one most of the time anyway.

My Kubota has a lever. I think it is primarly designed to operate from the ground with a trencher. It sets a way forward on the left side and is very unhandy. Have a 43HP industrial John Deere that only has foot pedals.

I've had two major surgeries in the last year, actually 3. I had a radical prostectomy last May and two hernias repaired 5 weeks ago. I expect if I went to the doctor, it would mean another surgery.

I also have knee problems. I have been on a couple of those foot pedal hydrostats for a very brief amount of time, but I know I would not be comfortable operating one for several hours at a stretch. I would have to find some way to lock that pedal in place.

Your not the only one. There is a Koboto 4 wheel with 50 hours for sale at the local JD dealer, Greeley Co. Story is an old guy bought it and can not run the foot tipping bit. I think he said 13,000.

I have a similar problem. I can run my Farmall row crop tractors all day without a problem, but the clutch pedal on the utility will tear up my knee in less than an hour if have to use it very much. The difference is that the pedals on the row crops push away from me, and then my leg is straight and will lock if I need to hold the pedal. The pedal on the utility pushes straight down, and my knee is bent all the time.

I have some of the same problems and also some others. Sounds to me like you might have a touch of arthritus, and may be diabetic. Also, I've been told that dehydration will cause leg cramps. I truely sympathize with you. rw

My Deere garden tractor (140) has a hand operated lever just right of the steering wheel. Love it. Handy as heck. Can drive it all day without even thinking about using my feet. I would sure look into puting an adaptation on any tractor I couldn"t operate comfortably. Dad-in-law"s Kabota has a foot operated hydrostat - not happy running that! Ran a manual transmission kabota recently, clutch was suspended off the dash like a car. Not comfortabel to operate either.
