O/T: computer problem

I've got an older computer, only 400 mhz, was working fine, left it sit for a couple months, now it doesn't complete POST. I pulled all extra cards and all but 1 memory chip. I get no beeps, nothing on the screen, but I do hear the drives spin up.

I tried a different video card(got it with a box of parts, don't know if it may be bad or not), made no difference.

Any suggestions? I could use it for the kids, but don't want to invest a lot in repairs due to age of the unit.

What are some other suggested uses for these older computers? They're a dime a dozen, seems a bit of a waste to throw them all away.

Thanks for your time, and y'all have a great day!

Sincerely,

Anthony

Hello MeAnthony,
Are you a guest ? I so your handle before. So what gives?
I think I can help though.
Change the little battery inside the computer. Its the clock battery #2032.
You will find it on the board. Good luck.
Guido.

I'm here often, but moreso to read and learn. I attempt to help whenever I can, but so many others know a lot more than I do.

I'll try the battery; should have one on-hand already.

Thanks for the suggestion,

Anthony
