Hello board members, i have a small ford dextra 35hp tractor an have rebuilt the engine about 40 hrs on it . it starts and runs well the only work i do with it is a towing a small trailer with about 1ton on it.is this enough to keep it from glazing bores,i have no axcess to any other implments or land to work, what is the best way to run the tractor, in a high gear or in a low gear, sory about the long question but i am abit worried in case i do some damage after the rebuild.Gearoid

If the trailer is the most load you can put on it I would think you could use the lowest gear that would cause governer to come in a little as you start uphill. You will be able to vary rpms and engine loads acording to gears, throttle and grade of hills.

Like others have said it is good to change the rpm up and down. Don't run it for any length of time at one rpm range. The last John deere I rebuilt the rings came with directions to break in the motor. i think it was 10 minutes at idle then 10 minutes at half throttle etc.. If you have any good back roads to drive on just go for some long rides up hills, down hills, flat etc. and vary the throttle.

40 hrs on it now..???
Won't make much difference, the cylinders glaze in the first 15 minutes..
I get them on a good load before that expires to seat the rings..

It will be fine...

hi gearoid i saw a thing about running in oil thaught it may help you out .http://www.pennzoil.co.nz/products/motor_oil/pz_products_retail_run.asp

Thanks for that lads, this is the first i ever got a engine re- built, when i firt fired it up an run it it took me about 1/2 hour, to test oil water leaks and get it out of shead, so any damage has already been done, all i can hope for now is i havent done to much. if the bores have been glazed over how long would it take to find out and how would you treat this, gearoid
