Does the regular clear coat spray we get at Ace Hardware do for spraying a tractor to brighten the finish? Those that I see with clear coat look great. Thanks

Google www.eastwood.com and they have a great lot of info and supplies of painting products for you to consider.Incompatible Primers,Paints, and Clear Coats can make your day go bad real quick. For Resto of Tractors and Equipment I use Rust-o-leum Products, have for 40 years, see no reason to stop now.Clear Coat is a method of bringing out the "Color" of a Primary Paint that has been properly sanded and buffed out.Ask "Glennster",he can answer your question if any one can.

to tell you the truth, clear coat does not do well with heat! just in case you were going to spray everything. It is over rated. get paint from the dealer if you can, and put a good hardener in it and it will shine as good as any clear coat will.

A 30's,40's,50's tractors with that mirror look see yourself in it just doesn't look right to me. They came with Enamel and didn't shine much and even might have a little orange peel. Everyone to his own.

Glenster could help out on this, but the good two or three part clear coats will wrinkle up some of the cheaper enamels that haven't been hardened. I tend to go a little nuts about perfection so I do use clear on some tractors. I even put some leftover clear on a propane tank that I had painted with enamel. My neighbors kid me that I have to wax it twice a year now LOL. Jim

An uncatylized clear coat is no better than an uncatylized pigmented paint. They will both fade in sun. If the existing paint is in good enough shape that you are considering clearing over it , then you should be able to rub it by hand with a real fine finish grade rubbing compound and follow up with some 3M hand glaze and get the new look you are after.

it would make a decent shine - but won't be durable at all. only good for quick sale [if you know what I mean] and yes I did learn that from a car dealer I previously worked for!

suprised you have had good
luck with rustoleum paint, everything I have ever painted with it has faded in less than 2 years.Ended up with a pink farmall after three years outside.Am I doing something wrong?John deere rustoleum colors faded too. thanks, bill m.

My sentiments exactly, if you're going to call it restored make it look like it came from the factory. If you want to show your painting skills: sand the cast smooth, take ALL the dents out of the sheet metal and custom paint your one of a kind replica of a JD, IH or whatever.

Use PPG's Omni one step where the base coat and clear coat are applied in one application. Use the hardener too. Use a suppied air system too. Don't wrap a rag around your head and start spraying. I used that paint on this Troy Bilt tiller in 2006. Hal
