40 acres of hay cut, bagger's here tomorrow

Gonna start chopping 1st crop tomorrow. I gotta go in and work 5 hours or so but then we're gonna go like crazy.

Gotta grease our 2 wagons and our neighbors 2 wagons yet, unhook the haybine, and go down the road and get the 986 we rent to run the bagger. Filling a 9x200' bag just like we did last year. If we have any that doesn't fit we might make a small drive over pile, or try to bale it.

I'll try to bring my camera along to snap a few pictures.

Here's hoping the weather cooperates...

I have never been around to watch when they fill those bags. So you buy a certain sized bag and when it's full that's it? I figure it came in a roll or something and you just cut off what you need.

It comes as a tube, you mount it on the bagger, pull a bit off and anchor that end. As the bagger stuffs the silage in, it pushes the tractor and bagger forward. There are "stretch marks" every five feet on the bag so you judge your setting on the brake tension. Overfilled- they burst and spoil- sometimes days later.
 
What JMS said. The feed quality is great when it comes out, and espescially with haylage you don't have to worry about pluggin the blower like you do on the silo. This will be our 4th bag we've filled. We did 2 10x150' bags with corn, and the last 2 years we've gone with a 9'x200' bag for haylage.

If the guy didn't have his 9' available, we would have gone with his 8' machine and a 150' and 100' bag.

Please do take pictures .. i have never seen a bag being filled .. it sounds interesting ... I'm like Don-Wi ... thought you went till you ran out of material [corn , hay or whatever ] and cut it off....

Just finished up 1st. cutting today in Central NY About 28 days start all over again.
