I was told if I put reject LIME in my shed.. put 2 to 3 inches and damp it down and pack it, do that tell it's 4 inches or more.... it will get as hard as cement... also was told that mice and rats wouldn't walk on it .... they get the lime on there feet and don't like it ...
My question is .. Is someone haveing fun with this ?? or has someone heard of this ...

Was told it's a poor mans floor ...

THANKS for any replys ...

Mice can get in most structures. I have a garage with 4 to 6 inches of lime. Mice crawled up thru the metal siding.

ive seen rats chew through concrete the story is to spread hydrated lime around yure property to keep snakes and mice out snkes wont cross it because it throws them into a preature shed i dont know why mice wont cross it but hydrated lime will dry out your skin so this might be why if you are hust trying to keep mic away put some mothballs out thats what we do for our camper oer the winter months e just spread mothballs under it never have had mice in it hope this helps

The road builders here use lime and water to spray the roads prior to paving for stablization. Ususually they use a recycler (looks like a giant rototiller) and mix it in with the soil, then roll it out. After it dries, then they put down the forms and pour the concrete or spread the asphalt. When the base is dry, it seems as hard as the pavement.
As for keeping mice out, I doubt that. A lot of folks here will spread it to keep fleas away and they claim it works, at least until it gets wet.
Below is an interesting link about barn floors, you may get some ideas there. I like the rubber mat idea, but would be expensive if the building was of any size. I put rubber mats in my goats run in sheds and it sure make cleaning them a lot easier. Here is a picture of the shed prior to putting in the rubber mats. I discovered as I cleaned them, I was digging them out which was a bad thing, so I filled them back up with fresh soil, leveled and layed the rubber mats on top. Now I have a good firm surface I can scrape a shovel or rake across to clean.

Barn Floor Ideas

Around here, (Western Wisconsin), you can get
Screenings from a lime quarry, which is really
small, almost sand grain, chips, and some dust,
put on a pole barn floor, level it good, wet it
and roll it, and it dries really firm, and can be
driven on. A good cheap floor, but I don't know
about the mice part.

Mark I think they may be having a little fun at your expense lime packed does make a good cheap floor but I can walk up to one of my three limed floor barns and get you pictures of colonies of mice running around!! try about 15 cats they seem to work !!!
