8n and bush hog

Why does the bush hog bog down and quit turning
when in heavy grass?? 8n engine keeps running normal. Can this green horn adjust something? The grass is not tall but thick

Does the hog have a slip clutch in the driveline?
If so it might need adjusting.

Does the 8N keep moving forward as well when the hog stops spinning?

If tractor continues to move forward when hog quits, its the clutch on the hog.

If tractor slows down as the hog slows down, its the clutch on the tractor.

Both possibilities are just good, clean fun, but one is more fun than the other.

I stepped up from a 40 inch bush hog to a 5 foot bush hog this year and had a difficult time cutting my land with 8n. After all the rain we had the fescue was thick as hair on a dogs back. I had it full throttle in low gear and it still bogged down in places. Had to raise the cutting height of my bush hog.

Do this.

Or get a tractor with a live/independent pto. Otherwise get used to mowing with the most miserable device ever devised. It was a horse replacement. Sorry I am bitter for having to mow with one for too many long hot days on a hard painful seat.
