John Deere 307 Gyramotor

I found a JD 307 Gyramotor today for 350. I think its the 6 foot model.

I"m guessing from the style of decal it came out with the New Generation Tractors in the late 60s-early 70s?

Are they a good model rotary cutter? I"ve never bought a used bush hog before, I asked about the bearings, the salesman didn"t know. Is there anything I should check out on it before I consider it - the only thing its missing are the chains that go in front of the cutter to guard against flying debris.

Now that I think about it, is 350 a good price? the top steel cover above the spindle is a bit dinged up but other than that it looks ok. I was going to have the dealer run it through the thickest brush they could find to see how it would do.

And my final question (my favorite) I realize the optimum match up for my Massey 135 would be a 5 foot bush hog like the king cutter I have at home. (Or, am I better off just rebuilding the king kutter?)

But since I can"t afford to buy a brand new bush hog can I get away with the 6 foot in tall grass? My tractor is the gas deluxe and it has the IPTO but I don"t have Multipower.

Thanks,

Christos
