another question on this tractor,...man has it for sale, it is a deisel but not a perkins, supposed to be english, won't start but turns over, new rear tires and rims, sheetmetal good shape..looks like 750.00 to go through engine, no telling if injectors or pump is bad...any ideas on whet this is worth.....

You would be much better off with a gas tractor. You can spend a fortune on a worn out diesel and the fuel savings on such a small tractor would be minimal. In addition you will get much better cold weather starts and be able to work on it yourself.

I agree with tom.if it were a perkins you should go for it.since it is a standard I would stay away from it.I wasnt to happy with the standard i overhauled.

4 cyl diesels were the ones to avoid in that tractor. Perkins were 3 cyl direct injection and started well, unlike the 4cyl with glow plugs which started poorly in cold weather.

I have one; It's OK after it starts, which requires a small squirt of ether in the air cleaner. It fires right off, and after it's warm it starts good. But I wonder how much damage that ether is doing.
Other than that I have no problems, but would very much prefer the Perkins.

Jim. You asked what is worth. In general it depends on the running condition of the tractor. If it is a non runner like you have stated, it is probable only worth scrap price or a little more because of new tires and good sheet metal. Without the engine running you can not evaluate the hydraulics and the running gear. I have owned a standard motors TO 35 for the last ten years and it has perfromed just great even in the north Idaho winters. Mine has glow plugs which all work and I have a water heater in the lower radiator hose which I plug mine in when the temperature gets below 30 degrees. I have never used ether to get it started. If the engine turns over, you can check to see if the injectors are getting fuel, Or you can open the bleed plug on the injector pump to see if the pump is getting fuel. Mabey the system just needs to be bleed. And by the way, I paid 2000 for mine ten years ago. Good luck. Jerry
