O/T - smoke smell in my new truck

The "97 Ford F-350 I bought had a faint, but distinctive odor from prior owner smoking in the truck.

One or more of you gentlemen suggested an ozone generator. I bought a small one off Ebay that is designed to remove odors from a refrigerator and put it in the truck. I think it cost me around $10.00.

Its been in the truck for about a week now and seems to be working well. Virtually no odor. I plan on leaving it in the truck for the next couple of weeks, then taking it out to see if the odor returns.

I've had that same problem with used vehicles.....and my first home.
Eventually the smell will go away, but its pretty obnoxious to have to put up with.

Take it back and tell them to do a though cleaning of the inside or you are going to give it back to them. The sales person should have told you about it.

Only person in my family that ever smoked was my granddaddy Howell.

He smoked the old style Camels without filters.

It was probably a combination of smoking non-filter Camels and eating chicken fried steak with gravy that finally caught up to him.

As for me, I"m a non-smoker.

Many decades ago when I was a young man in college, there was a pretty young lady conducting a survey on smoking.

I was doing my best to flirt with her, but she was very serious about asking the questions on the survey.

She finally got annoyed with me and asked "Do you smoke after having s*x?"

I smiled and replied "Don"t know; I"ve never looked."

Leave windows open for air circulation whenever you can too... More fresh air the better. I have real issues with previous owners who smoke in car. I will not knowingly buy a "smoker". Just bought a car for wife to drive yesterday. Went over it with fine tooth comb looking for evidence of smoking. Found none.

A friend of mine gave me a tip to help remove smoke odors. Get a Zest bar of soap, cut it in small chunks and place in a small container under the seat. I"ve used it and it does help but a damp day or two will bring it back but not as bad. As I remember your first question before you bought it had several good techniques given but nothing short of removing your air ducts and washing out will help cover it up. As a non-smoker you will probably always get a "whiff" of smoke smell. Let us know in a few months how the ozone thing works out.

Febreeze?

I've had decent luck with using the household carpet powder deodorizer. Sprinkle it on the cloth seats and carpet, and vacuum.

I would think twice before letting an OZ generator run inside the truck. OZ eats the livin tar out of rubber and some plastics. I have a friend who owns a hot tub store and he started selling them and had a demo OZ generator running in the showroom as they also remove chlorine odor. Well, his store truck was parked in the attached warehouse right behind the showroom doors and soon every vacuum hose on that truck was shot and leaking, including the ones under the dash that control the heat/AC box. The rubber all got brittle and turned into black dust. It was amazing to see, but sure was a mess.
