City Tractor Worker vs Farm experienced tractor work (myself

Hey guys, first off by no means am I meaning to disrespect you gents who do tractor work for your local city authority, however I have a good story to tell you guys. Over here in my region due to a major influx of people and houses, discing is only approved on agricultural lots. If your lot/property is not used for ag purposes you must use a brush hog or mower of some sort. Well about a week ago I was using a pto attached mower on the front part of our property which is not used for ag while the city hired guy was brush hogging a huge plot in front of our place. Now neither of us were very smart being out in the heat of day, 95 degrees, but nonetheless I was on my Massey 165, going slow, making sure the mower had time to really take care of every bit of weed and grass that needed to be handled. The city guy had a NICE John Deere, cab enclosed, AC, I-POD, etc....... with a brand new Brush Hog. I noticed how fast he was going and how many of the weeds were merely bending then popping right back up as he passed. Well this guy had the audacity to stop where I was to tell me I was going too slow!!!!!! Hahaha, well I got the last laugh because his speedy work now has full grown weeds back in force while my slow and steady got the job done!!!!!!! Hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the city usually does a pretty weak job of mowing in my experience. The guys who mow the interstate are usually the few people who go slow enough (however, they go a bit too slow sometimes).

I really wish I had one of those John Deere 6430s, though.

Well, the answer is: This is the difference between owners & hired folks. U were using ur own tractor 2 cut ur own grass (therefore trying 2 do the job completely so u wouldn"t hafta do it again 4 awhile!), while He was hired & didn"t givadam, because he would get paid anyway. Probably "Job Security" reared it"s ugly haid, hawhawhaw! I"d say more, but if I get 2 political, the Post Gzorchers would strike, hehehe!! CC

True very true. I was just surprised this guy had the audacity to come out and tell me how to do the job when he obviously was incompetent.

Isn't that typical for a government employee?????

The clown probably doesn't even own a tractor and mower of his own.

You don't live in WV, Some of the hills I mow are steep. You just have to watch what you are doing.

(quoted from post at 00:20:40 08/08/09) Yes . Now you are done with your job but he still HAS a job! The difference between piece work and hourly ...

I hesitate to refer to government jobs as actual "work", though.

(quoted from post at 14:51:39 08/08/09) My reply to the city guy would have been something like:: "Hey young feller, looks like ya forgot to put the mower in gear over there"

I can't wait until the guy comes out again. I'm going to give him a real hard time on this one.

(quoted from post at 19:47:03 08/08/09) City dude was getting paid for and riding in comfort while you were doing what?

Honest work, getting a job done as it should be. I would say he was wasting our tax money.
