Any one going to the big County Fair in Spencer Iowa September 12-20? Any one been there before? What is your opinions?

Been there a few years ago. They call it the best county fair in the country (better than some states state fair). Usually have lots of the farm equipment on display too!

I get there every few years, was there in 08, definately worth the trip, often mach. companies debut there new equipment there, SD has a nice fair but Spencer is much bigger, haven't been to the Mn st. fair since I last showed cattle there in 84 or 85 but have been told it is nothing but an urban fair now and that Machinery Hill is nothing anymore, most major manufacturers don't go there to answer the question how much combines and tractors cost a million times.

How does that work when it is held after the state fair?

Do they select the 4H projects to go to the State Fair before they hold their county Fair?

Been to Ia. state fair 3 times. Never left nutten ta go back fer. Went to Clay county in86 & every year after.Will be there on sat. this year.

They have a day in late June or early July where the 4-Hers bring in their projects.They are then judged & state fair projects are selected.The other projects are then brought back & displayed during the fair.

I took a show string of Dairy Cattle to this fair in 1950. I have a ;ot of realatives in the Spencer area. They say it is aways a great fair. Took a show string to Iowa State Fair in 04 and 05. Give a trophy every year to the Champion Guernsey shown by a 4-H or FFA youth.You can alway count on the Iowa State Fair to be great. None of the fairs have the Farm Machinery exhibits like they use to have.

Over the last 100yrs. the Clay County Fair has also had some of the greatest dirt track sprint car racing in the entire country. Great traditional fair with something for everybody.

I remember going to combine demolition derby there once as a boy say 25-30 years ago. Neatest thing I ever saw. Been there off and on over the years and it is always a good show. Well worth the time and effort to go.

They have an awesome display of antique tractors there in two sections. The Deeres by the NW IA Two Cyl club, and the other breeds in another area. There is always plenty to see at the Clay county Fair.

Thanks for all the positive comments, I had made up my mind to take the Gold D, That just hit a large snag, All the Motels are FULL. Suppose we will stay in S W Indiana.

I go to the clay county fair every year. Been going to the world of outlaw sprint car races for the last 2 years there. Great tractors to see. Good food and plenty to do. Just wish they still had the horseshoe tourney yet.
