88 chevy pickup

I have a 88 3/4 ton chevy pickup with a throttle body injection. does anybody know if I can take that off an run a regular carb. without changing the intake manifold. has a 350 engine.

No it won't work without an adapter. Just curious, why would you want to eliminate injection? That old, parts are plentiful and easy to fix, no choke and usually better mileage than a carb.

You'll be way better in the long run to find a GOOD mechanic and fix the throttle body system.

Nope the computer won"t like those changes at all. That injection system is not hard to service at all.Any competent mechanic can work on it.

Who has maintained the vehicle in the past, and what is the maintenance history.. In the 14 years that I worked in a Chevy dealership, there were only a remote few times that I flat out refused to work on a customer's vehicle...As a rule, I was glad to help our customers with their vehicle problems... We knew how to repair these systems correctly....... can't say the same for Bubba and Egour,, who would start tearing off system components that they didn't understand...... When Bubba and Egour got done with a vehicle, only the junk yard wanted it... In the long run, you will be ahead finding a dealership or other repair shop that has the experienced personel and equipment to DIAGNOSE the problem, and THEN do the repairs.......
STAY away from Bubba.....

The only way to do away with the TBI would be replace the intake with a carb intake and an HEI distributor. I would fix the TBI. One of the most simple systems ever devised. They only need 15 psi fuel pressure to run. The rest of the electronics is very simple. Whats wrong with it?

The TBI is a pretty solid unit...usually vacuum leaks at the base gasket or an EGR issue creating poor driveability- the only reason for replacement with a card would be installation in an earlier, non-computer car. Need a different intake to go the carb route.

Well the first thing is that there are three bolts that hold the throttle body on and in the shape of a triangle.4 bolts hold the carb on.Then you either need a fuel pressure regulater to cut your fuel pressure down to 7 lbs for your carburetor.Or you can take your tank off, take the fuel pump out and put a pipe in its place or just make it like a pickup in a tank without a electric fuel pump. Then put a regular fuel pump on or an electric fuel pump for a carburetor. Then change your intake manifold to one for a carburetor.I think Edelbrock or somebody makes a intake just for that purpose.Could be wrong.

I dont blame you a bit.A carburetor is a lot cheaper to fix,you can handle it,and it probably will run a long time.I hate to mess with that junk stuff that costs 20 dollars for a sensor here 50 dollars there and it still never fixes it.Then you have to find somebody with a reader.By then you could have put a carb kit in and be running.Probably as good of gas mileage as well and less trouble.Yeah its simple if you have a reader and 2 or 300 to spend on a few sensors. If you have to hire it done might as well look for another truck that runs.Sometimes you can find a 4 wheel drive that year for 500 and it might run good but something is wrong with the transmission or some other problem. If you have to have a computer that is the one you want. Its just not my preferance.

Roy; it starts most the time. when you 1st start it its like the choke isn't working. then when its hot it floods its self when you go to start it. I don't trust it to go very far.

it doesn"t have a choke and that would be one of your sensors. map or o2 sensor maybe. I usually find its the map sensor.
