Going to the Farm Progress Show in IL this year.

I've never been before. I've wanted to go, but I was always in school by now, so I could never get away. But this year, now that I am out of college (and unemployed, go figure  ), I have free time and am excited to finally get to go. Ever since the IL State Fair quit having tractors and other farm equipment there, this is pretty much 'the place' to go, so I hear. At least as far as new stuff goes.

So, my question is, what is it like? Should I bring some cash along? Are there people there selling stuff? Or giving away stuff? I have no idea what to expect; if anybody can tell me about it, I'd be glad to listen. :!:

The ones that I have been at do have some vendors that you could buy stuff. Most of it I can't afford. You can come home with more literature than you can carry or want to carry all day. Go in a comfortable pair of shoes.

Figured it'd be stuff outta my price range. I like going to antique tractor shows where I can get a hat of the tractor of the year for like $5. Last year I got myself a red IH cap.

It is just like going to Disney Land for farmers. Lots of stuff out of some one's day dreams. Huge pieces of equipment that I will never need let alone afford. If you like looking at 36 row planters or combines with 50 foot headers, you will enjoy it. The last time I went, I kept wondering how many $250,000. combines does John Deere really expects to sell. Or how big a field do you have to have to turn around with a 36 row planter? There are usually lots of give aways but take some cash for food. Plan to walk alot. Several years ago it was held here in Indiana and I remember one of the flying farmers over shot the runway with his twin Beach and went right into a corn field. Neatest demonstration of corn shelling I ever saw.

Haha, that's awesome. Yeah, our family doesn't own anything much bigger than 4000 and 6000 series tractors. I have gotten to drive the 8000 series Deere's, though, and they do ride pretty nice. Though the power shifts are far nicer than the ones where you just keep pushing the stick forward, IMO.

Favorite one to drive was probably the 8100. Biggest one was probably an 8530. Never drug anything bigger than a 24 row planter, though. Still, I would never buy nor be able to afford something like that on my own.
