Tire and inner tube question

Ok, I broke off the valve stem on my backhoe, a massey ferguson 40B. Guess I hit a stump. The question is can it be repaired or do I need a new tube??
thanks

If you're sure you have a tube in it , then you need a new one. If you just broke the stem and its tubeless , the stem can be replaced seperately.

There are valve stem patches that can be used to replace damaged stems on tubes.

I wouldn't bother using one unless the rest of the tube is in excellent condition. The difference in cost between the stem repair and a new tube probably isn't that much compared with the labor required to to the repair.

When tire shops had vulcanisers for hot patching tubes and vulcanising smaller holes in casings they also replaced valve stems, at least on cars and light trucks.
That was 50 or so years ago, may all be gone now, but wouldn"t hurt to ask if any heavy truck tire shops around.. Good luck.

Thanks Guys
I'll talk to the repair place in the morning. At least I might have options
THANKS

I have put on a few. The new stem should be relocated about 1/3 away around the tube and then the old stem mounting location should be buffed and patched. a new stem cost about $6-$10

There is a plcae about two miles from here that does a lot of truck tires and they have repaired several tractor tubes for me. So-- the hot patch is still alive and cooking Henry

Yes... there are special 'stem' patches for that where you glue a new stem in place and patch the hole... BUT you've got to look at how old the the tube is now and whether it's worth bothering with. Special patches are not cheap. New tubes in those type sizes are not all that expensive...
Something to think about.

Well back from the tire shop. The old guy said that they used to repair broken valve stems on tubes, but they can"t get them anymore. Would cost about 25 bucks. Had a tube in stock for 49.
All back together now, I"ll make sure I stay away from stumps.
