My husband passed away earlier this year. I am selling 5 of his tractors in a local auction. I want to have reserve bids on them... any help would be appreciated as to what to have as reserve bids. 1st: JD Unstyled AR: serial 28209?, good rubber on spokes; 2nd: JD Styled H, good paint and good rubber; 3rd: JD Unstyled A serial #458752, good rubber, good paint; 4th: Case S, good rubber, needs paint, JD Unstyled B serial 38951, good paint good rubber on spoke wheels. Help PLEASE with their value????

Go to this site. At the top of the page is the different brands of tractors. They have a priceing based of several factors. You can judge from there.

What they will bring is going to depend on how wide spread the advertising goes as some of them should bring some real good money. You need to advertise on the add site as the sale date and location. Post on the John Deere site as the would be buyers will have a chance to see the add.

The AR Id say $3-$5000 for a nice one.Good Styled H John Deere $2500-3500 dollars.I recently watched a well restored unstyled A sell for $4000 at auction. The S CASE isnt a real super valuable machine but if its good should bring $1500 at least

Don"t know your location, but if those tractors run well, they"ll sell well in most locations. However, some people (like me) will bid less if they are aware of a reserve bid.

Quite simply, it is the only way I have of TRYING to punish the person for having a reserve at what is usually billed as "an unreserved auction." I would feel like I was either wasting my time bidding or giving away information (kind of like showing your cards in a poker game when every one else folds).

I recently had a farm auction and had a excellent Oliver 1850 that had been recently overhauled. I am not in Oliver country. Had a bunch of the local yo-yo's in attentance. They knew the tractor and what it would do. I told the actioneer I was not going to give it away. He started crying and no one started it. Kept going down and stil no one started I used my hand to slash across my throat to signal no-sale. Had one of those in attentace ask son a month later if I still had that old Oliver. My son told him. We smiled as we were handed a check and it was on a truck headed north. I cannot stand people who try to be thieves,

we bid on tractors in at least 15 states and always bid less on tractors with reserve -i feel the owners just want them appraised for free---usually cut them 20%

Just because someone doesn't buy your tractors at an auction doesn't make them thieves. They're just looking to see if you'd let it go for less. Obviously, you didn't. No one stole anything.

An auction is an auction. The purpose is to sell something to the highest bidder on given day. Don't believe in reserve auctions. Bernie Steffen

If you are going to have an auction then have an "auction"! If you have a figure in mind that you "have" to have , then run them on internet classifieds. You can't have it both ways. I won't even go to a "reserve" auction. It's NOT an auction!

Well said Rob. My dad always said there are only three happy people at an auction the buyer, the seller and the auctioneer otherwise it"s just a gathering of people. As a dealer I went to a lot of auctions just to see what used equipment was bringing in my area it was and is just good business to be fair with the locals trading in equipment. Can"t say I"ve ever seen anyone steal anything.

Hi Deer Lady,

Prayers from our house too yours.

I agree, I never attend reserve auctions.

Also, I think your taking a big risk listing the complete serial number. Example: I always like using 458xxx as that's enough too tell the info needed but not enough for someone too use against you.

"I think your taking a big risk listing the complete serial number."

Geez, you're sure a PARANOID dishpit, aren't you!

Well Bob, when you live in a state with extreme I.D. theft, then you take extra precautions.

Seems I'm in Big trouble, I have a few cars with the ID Number sticking right in front of the Wind Shield, maybe some one in your State will write it down, and say,,,(IT's Their's)

Boy,,,, you need help,,, better see a Doc some place out of State,,,

Gotta agree with you, Zeke... every car or truck has the VIN visible through the windshield for all to see... then we have BLEMS worried someone will know the serial # of their old tractor... IHMO, if you are the legal owner of a tractor what's the harm in someone knowing it's serial #????

Huh?

Are you saying that with a serial number someone could apply for a loan in the tractors name and ruin the tractors credit?
