Farmall H Brake spring clevis

I am trying to free the rusted and seized spring clevis adjustment rods on my '47 Farmall H. I heated the jamb nut and just the end of the body where the adjustment rod threads into the barrel inside the compression spring. The area was heated red hot but when I tried to loosen the clevis rod the rod twisted and deformed. It appears the clevis rod threads deep into the body of the adjuster inside the compression spring. I don't think I heated the body inside the spring and just twisted the rod at the jamb nut. I did not want to heat the entire spring and internal body for fear of losing the spring temper. I have read several posts that say to heat the adjuster and quench in cold water to free the rod. Will this harm the spring temper? I was thinking of grinding off the welds and removing the spring from the yoke and then heat the body to free the rod. I may have twisted and weakened one rod already. Any info would be appreciated as well as where I could find a couple of serviceable spring rods if I can't free the two now on the tractor. Thanks for any advice.
