Had something interesting happen today.

One of my sows is pretty small and should have probably been culled, but I kept her anyway. She had one pig Saturday morning and I was wishing even more I had culled her out. Today she had 4 more. 5 pigs is a long way from a good litter, but better than I thought. I've never seen one have pigs over 48 hours apart like that.

You're 5 up then, no indication the offspring will be small, have you ever considered to adding another arm to your enterprise and breeding down[like the lowline cattle] not everybody wants a large Landrace or Yorkshire.Could be a niche market out there.

Pigs are a different kind of mammal. Sows carry piglets in what are called uterine horns before they are born that branch off the overies. The two uterine horns connect to the uterus. Which is more or less a birth canal. They carry their babies different. It is possible, and happens, but is very rare, that a sow can have piglets born from one uterine horn and days or weeks later pigs are born from the other uterine horn. I have never had it happen to my livestock but have read about it. Good luck.

I was fairly lucky for the ten years I had sows. Not a big operation (20 sows) but averaged 12.4 pigs per litter Ther we a few girls that had small litters but they grew quicker than the large litters. As long as she is a good momma, I'd make a place for her on the farm. Bacon is bacon, you know... Wish you luck.

The weather has turned off cold and nasty, but I have a good shelter for them. If they make it the next 2 or 3 days, they should be fine.
