Repairing Spin-Out Rims

I need two rims with the spin-out rails on them. I was thinking of cutting out the rails on the bad rims and then welding them on a blank rim. The rails are spot-welded on the bottom of the rim were I would weld the rails on from top with maybe one inch weld on each side of the rail and about four or five inches apart, that is if I can find blank 26" rims. Anybody do this and was it worth doing?

I am just now doing the same with my wavy rim, I cut out the center from the old rim with my angle grinder and also had to cut out ten inches of it as it was rusted through...I built in a new ten inch section with my welder and ordered a new blank rim 8x24...$120.00...They were asking $500 to $700 for a good used rim. My rim just came in this morning...I ordered mine from a parts dealer here in Ontario Canada..But I think you should be able to get the rims from Steiner in Michigan or Wengers in Myerstown Pennsilvania. Hope this helps.

Don't know where you are located, but Mark Yearling at P-T Stamping in Coldwater, MI has done them. Give him a call at 517-278-5961.

If KC refers to Kansas City, try Hey Machine in Baldwin City, KS. They sell airplane tires for ag machinery and have a full "wheel making" machine shop. I know they build new power adjust wheels as well as two piece bolt togeher rims for their airplane tires. Theyve been reasonable in price for my dealings with them.

I did it because no replacements were available. The blank rim cost me about $100. Wasn't too bad. Search the archives for "power adjust rim" and you'll get a few hits.

The way to do this is to put the rails on the rim, clamped just tight enough to hold them there, then take a wheel center, and bolt all the rail clamps to it, and slide it all the way down, and clamp the eccentric bolt. Then take another center, and do the same thing on the other side of the rim. When both are clamped down tight, tack the rails in place, remove 1 of the centers, loosen the other 1 and see if the center slides along the rails as it should. Be sure not to loose the rail riders that the tightening down clamps have, you'll never get them tight, without the rail rider.
