Some People - You just cannot win!

So get a call from fellow who purchased a few parts and had them delivered to his place 300 miles away. He chiseled me on everything including the shipping which was handled by another company entirely...I basically sold him everything at 50 cents on the dollar just to clean out the parts shelves and open the space in the shop. Well apparently the delivery company bumped his Cub tractor and bent the tie-rods a little...and he calls ME with the strong-arm threats of law enforcement...insurance etc.
Anybody have a similar situation using a third party hauler - and how did you resolve. I am planning to send him a set of used replacement tie-rods but honestly its not my fault he failed to notify the hauler and hammer it out with him.
I think I am done selling to people from CT - every single time its problem...no other state or customers give me the hassles that come from CT.
Spoke with the hauler...he charged $300 for 600miles of travel and $75 tolls..and $160 in fuel...so at least I did not get taken as hard as he did with my dealings withe "fellow".

If his check has cleared the bank thank him for his business, inform him that any claim he has is with the shipper, and hang up. I'll bend over backwards to keep a customer, but some you just cant satisfy. I figure Im better off not keeping them.

I've always thought it odd that the biggest two "crooks" in our community - and they were known pretty much far and wide - were the first and loudest to holler if anything ever happened to them!!

I know one of them one time was telling everyone at the coffee shop he'd had some engines "stolen"... What was this world coming to? etc, etc...

Come to find out - the rest of the story was - he'd stiffed the machine shop that had overhauled them for him - and they had just come to repossess them...

Some folks are never pleased no matter how far you bend...

I think you should encourage that yahoo to report the matter to law enforcement. Let him embarrass himself properly. If he gets agitated with an officer who has already had a long day because of nuts like him, he could even get a free ride in a car with lights on the top.

I agree with everyone else who says that you have done more than enough for him.

When Dad and Grand-dad ran the shop, I was amazed at how many folks who behaved like your customer were also Bible-thumpers. A true Christian won't behave like that, but the Bible-thumpers sure do.

I guess they see everyone else as having "sinned" against them.

I suspect there is more to this story then we're being told. No one in there right mind would replace damage done by shipper.

Dont know why you are crying on here about your total lack of judgement, in that you argreed to send him some tie rods. Get a spine next time and tell him to take it up with the shipper. I hate it when folks cry about being mistreated by others, when it is usually their fault. Tom

The shipper is responsible if they bent it not you unless you sold him something bent or damaged to begin misrepresenting it. One or both of you takes the shipper to small claims court. Tell the shipper that and they will probably or should settle with the buyer. If not take the shipper to court.

No tie-rods outbound! He called again and wanted me to just send CASH...no time to wait on tie-rods. I explained that its not my problem and good luck with his "claim" with the hauler. Apparently I should begin seeking legal counsel as he intends to "Sue me into the stone-ages"...I responded with I am already there given the amount of "profit" I saw from his particular transaction...apparently he had some phone issues as the line went silent..then CLICK.

If he didn't bring it up with the hauler when it happened, it didn't happen. Sounds to me like he's trying to get free parts for an old problem.

you dont owe the guy anything any claim like that would be with the delivery company not you, some people spend all their time trying to bully others into free stuff, i have it happen too, just last week some lady passed my kenworth at 90 mph on the right hand side of the truck, [ which is why i noticed that particular car] then 30 minutes later, she called the gravel plant and claims i broke her windshield when a rock fell off the truck, and she wanted a new one from me, only problem i told her was she wasnt smart enough to pick a loaded truck to pull that stunt on, i was on my way to work, and running empty lol

I was unlucky enough to get a cracked windshield in Des Moines a couple years ago. I watched an obviously EMPTY truck ahead of me bounce and rattle around as we passed over a overpass. Lets just say MANY rocks came off the back of that thing. I passed him, got his name off the door, called, and the nice man I talked to ended up calling me everything but a white guy.

i dont have anyplace on the back of my truck where rocks can sit, if the rocks are kicked up by the wheels not much we can do about that as i told the lady good luck with your claim

What claim, I paid out of my pocket for my windshield. All I am saying is those rocks that day came off that empty truck cuz I watched them tumble towards my truck after he hit a spice in the road. There are plenty of places for rocks to sit on an empty truck after it dumps, like suspention parts. I respect truckers, not all of them are idiots, just a few.

Think about how hard the truck would have had to hit the tractor to bend the tie rods, no way it would have gone unnoticed at the time. This guy is a liar looking for something for nothing.

Want a funny one ? Have somebody call and tell you what a lousy job you did on the exhaust part you made for them and that even the Chinese clamp you supplied didn't fit. "what Chinese clamp? I make all the clamps I supply!"
Saaay wait a minute, what is the name on the invoice? OH you ordered from my competition then called me to complain ? Sorry call them.
No apology made! Some people!

I sold a guy a set of high compression pistons and rods for a Case LA for almost nothing. Later he said one had a bad wrist pin bearing. I new better because i took them out of a running tractor with only about 300 hours on them. Also they were still stiff when held up you had to push the piston down to move them.
I told him there As Is he still won't talk to me at the Roundup.
Sometimes people just want to get what the want and don't care how.

I sold a wood stove to a law officer many years ago. Called me after a few weeks wanting his money back, claimed the stove filled his house with smoke. When I told him I had just removed it from my house and it worked fine and he wasn't getting his money back he threatened to sue and make it tough for me to cross the border. I told him to stick in his @$$ . Never heard from him again, found out through a friend , he eventually found out he had a plugged chimney. Some people try to throw their weight around.

I used to drive a FedEx Home Delivery truck in Omaha. Never had a sucessful claim filed against me. I received notice of an attempt at a claim, was given the local address and shipping info, stopped there on my route to check on it. They were not home, but called my cell when they got home. I mentioned the claim-it was a computer part from the west coast somewhere-and they said 'we got it, and still have the box'! They gladly signed my paperwork saying they got it-figured the shipper probably had insured the package, and wanted to collect on it TWICE! Greg

There is a guy down here, running a "Christian minded company". They have screwed over every company down here. They will call you and ask for quote, get you to do something, then complain about everything, and tell you what they think your job was worth. I finally lit into them and I haven't heard from them since. I warn everyone of them though, not to deal with them because you will get screwed.

What a witty little response...takes a real tough guy to use a anon userid and proxy through an army medical hospital in GA. Hurry back with the rest of the herd they get angry when the flock gets separated..... Ba Ba BLACKsheep.
