Hungry Looking Hawk

My wife took this picture through the bedroom window of this hawk sitting out on the garden.
We feed the birds, but they usually disappear into the bushes when a hawk is around. Hal

Send him over to hang around my garden! Besides maybe saving some garden yield, I love to see the red tail hawk hunt.....prettier than Top Gun.
 
They can swoop down in a flash and grab a bird. I don't know if they handle a squirrel I have plenty of them. We wouldn't miss one of them.
We have one squirrel that can pull himself up on top of the bird feeder. I told my wife he been doing his pullups. Its on a metal pole too. Hal
 
Used to love to watch 'em late in the year when I'd finish up a soybean field.........before the coyotes moved in and killed all the cottontails off. The rabbits would run to the un-cut beans and when I got down to a narrow strip, there might be several rabbits there; have seen as many as 6 red-tails circling or sitting at the edge of the field waiting for me to flush 'em out. They caught a lot of 'em, 'though some would escape.
 
Here's a picture of the doe with one of her fawn's. Don't know where the other fawn is, they usually all eat together. They're almost as big as the doe. Hal

One year nearing harvest, I was mowing around the edges of my beans. There was a thump and it was redtail hawk diving on a rabbit in the beans. But with the beans near 3 feet tall, that hawk couldn't lift the rabbit and fly out of there, so after a while it turned the rabbit loose and left. So I'd think a squirrel would not have been such a problem. The problem was the hawk's wing span was quite a bit more than the bean row spacing.

Yup, when we start mowing, the hawks show up. We've had them land in the pasture where we were mowing. They are great to watch.
