Hey guys :)

Welp, Yesterday after school, I packed my bags and my dad drove me to Delaware, OH and then My mom and I stopped by Rich's farm (R Aikin) and looked at some tractors and I got the manifold and gas tank my B needs at long last :)

And then this morning, i got up early and got to work.

The mower of awesomeness

And the kubota fired right up after sitting for five long months...

When i was last at Rich's, I got a nice little MTD lawn tractor and two briggs engines... One was stuck...

So today, i took the head off it and found the cylender filled with strange white powder... So i dumped it out, and got a hammer and a block of wood and busted the engine loose... It wasnt very rusty... And now it turns over nice and smooth

Then, just before lunch, My friend phil showed up and delivered my new beater truck... This one is gonna need some work...

She has a great running 4.3 and a 5 speed tranny... With 4x4... So theres alot of potential here... I allready have everything i need to make a new wood bed for it, and then all i have to do is fix the front... The guys sister T-Boned a santa fe that ran a stop sign at about 65 miles an hour...

Haha... So... Its not very buffable... Dont worry, no one got hurt.

Anyway, i need to find someone with a cheap core support and fenders, front clip and hood... Im looking around... I probabally cant do anything for a while tho...

We had it running today... We only ran if for about 30 seconds because of the whole no water thing..

but she sounded great :)

My only question tonight is, How do i fix this mag??

Its just the same briggs unit thats on alot of their one cylender engines... Mines just not working... I tried cleaning it up and drying it out (its not the one in the picture, but an identical one) and i just cant get any spark out of it... Any ideas???

Thanks guys... And wish me luck getting that B going tomorrow :)

Both school (I teach you know)and your Tractor/Mower/truck adventures are critical for your proper development. THanks for sharing, and welcome back! Jim

Those small engine mags are about $26.00 at any small engine shop that will sell brigs parts. you will need to have the engine type and code# to get the right one. it will include a new coil wire with it

Lanse how ya doin?? I posted a topic with your name to see if anyone has heard from you..I and a few others were wondering if a wild animal got a hold of you..like a memeber of the cat family...

Lanse, good to see you are alive and active, doing the things that are important to you. Keep up the good work and keep us informed.

What year model is the S10 pickup? I've got a mid 80's Red one I'd give you with a good front clip and a lot more parts even a bed. All you need to do is find a way to get it to where you are. I was told it even has a good V-6 motor. If your interested in it I'll send you some photos.

Doubt the coil is bad. I'd go for either the points under the flywheel need cleaned or the flywheel key is sheared or it tried to shear. The timing between charging the coil and the points opening are critical.

Lance ,

One thing to look for on that mag is for the shutdown wire may be pinched and shorted out.

But do first he recommended setting of the points.

Make sure rust has been sanded and wiped well.

Magnet on flywheel will sometimes loose their strength so will it hold a medium screwdriver?

Are you setting air gap between magneto and flywheel correctly? On older engines I set mine with a piece of fine grit sand paper or a piece of thin paper like an envelope open to be just one thickness of itself. I just let the magnet suck it up to flywheel tighten the magneto and rotate flywheel to remove paper.

thats an electronic ignition module there are no points, it just fires everytime the magnet goes around. I've had to replace three of the stupid things on stuff I own, fourth time I bought a honda engine instead.
