bushings???

Hey folks,
Is there a place on line that I can order bushings just by supplying the ID/OD?
I replaced our entrance gate that was in pretty rough shape with one from ebay. Had to take 8 inches off the width and managed OK but the hinges are bigger than what I had. Option 1 is to cutthe existing off and weld the correct size on, but I'm not a super duper welder. Simple option is to just slip brass, steel, or SS bushings in and call it done. A 1/2" pipe nipple is close but just doesn't quite do it to make things line up straight.
I can have something made, but figured it'd be cheaper to order them.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Dave

Mcmaster Carr, MSC, or Grainger (in that order)would be the three sources I know best that would probably have what you need.

Though not correct,and being an"out of the box"kinda guy...Yes you can order bushings by dias and length...however it's generally cheaper in such a application to make em.Besides water pipe,theres electrical conduit(or fittings),furniture tubing(table-chair legs etc),steel tubing,lawnmower and L&G equipment handles,copper-brass-aluminum tubing,faucet spouts,wheelchair,walker and crutch tubing,etc
all of which can be"aquired" in various diameters, thicknesses, often just for the time of lookin around.
Solids for replacement oversize pins would be "same game w/o the hole"...:)

Prolly end up spending a little quality time with a grinderand pipe nipple then. Inside diameter is just right, and OD just needs a little touching up. Sometimes it's easier to find another piece than a rountuit to adapt

Hate to replace the hinge halfs on the walls cause it'd be a real PITA and mess up the old look (one set is in a hundred year old stone wall)

TSC, Ace Hardware or other Hardware Stores would have brass bushings..

We have a great one in Delaware, Ohio."Hardware Exchange" that has an unbelievable selection..

Good Luck..!

Ron..

That's a great hardware store. The old style ones are the place to go for an old home. BTW, don't think I've seen anyone else from Deleware on here, I'm from over near Ostrander.

I'll second McMaster-Carr, they can probably get you any size, any material, any length. Note: its cheaper usually to buy the long length, and cut to your length with a chop saw.

Working down pipe OD....Cut bushing a little long,If no access to basic lathe, run a bolt or threaded rod through it and nut it tight.Stick end of bolt in drillpress at low speed and attack it w/coarse file or rasp or even lightly w/disc grinder checking frequently.(Crescent wrench w/wooden match or brad jammed in adjuster knurl, makes a great "farm caliper" :)

I have a '45 Farmall M. Used to have some hay equipment, but the hobby got too big so I sold most of it. I have some pics in the picture forums, just search John S-B.
You sound like you're stuck in between the high dollar yuppies there on Home Road. We were originally looking at a ten acre lot at Hyatts and Liberty back behind that NE corner. Didn't like the transmission line going through the property though. We have a nice lot on Burnt Pond North of 36.

Hope you will send an E-Mail address so I can contact you..
