Well Problem/ OT

Ground has been dry as a $art for so long that now with this every other day rain my well is getting discolored.
I think the contamination is coming in around where the line goes out the casing to the house.
I know ya"ll have mentioned some type of material that will swell up and seal things up but can"t seem to recall what it is.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Marty

Bentonite Clay....What is it and where do you buy it? I have read in a house construction manual, that it is the best for waterproofing foundations and cellars. I want to obtain some and apply to a cellar.
Thanks for any information.

Marty, where in Va are you? Drillers' Service carries bentonite, as will every other company that sells to drillers. It's the preferred waterproofing by our Health Dept.

Hope it clears up your water. Don't forget that dirty water always has coliform, time for a bleach treatment.

Where are you in Virginia Marty?
Anywhere on the eastern side of the mountains is so wet guys are having trouble getting beans harvested.
Water is standiong where it hasn't for years and November had 2 inches more rain then a "normal" November.

Thanks guys,

I live in Beaverdam, NW corner of Hanover County.

I went by SS but they didn't have any bentonite. Said they could get it.
I just got a few tubes of roofing caulk and a bag of concrete mix and dug down to where I'm pretty sure the problem is and threw it all in the hole. If that don't work I'll take another whack at it with the bentonite.

It's been a long time since it's been this wet. I've got water standing across my path to the dog lot that has not been there since the early 90's.

Hunting sucks too when ya gotta tote 5lbs of this red clay on ya boots when you're walking.

I see a few bean feilds that still need to be cut around here. I guess they'll have to wait for the big freeze now.

Thanks again.

Marty, you're not very far. I'm in W Albemarle and have bentonite if you want. For that matter it appears I'm going to do some lakefront erosion work at Lake Anna, border of Louisa/Spotsy. If that happens I could bring a bag or two.

Drillers' Service in Charlottesville stocks it, as will any driller supplier in Richmond. Not used much except for wells, SS isn't a driller supplier.

Pretty chilly this AM, 17º with a stiff breeze up here on my mountain. I'm looking for frozen ground so I can move logs. But I'm real happy with the rain/snow to replenish my aquifer.

Thanks for the offer Tom.
I'm gonna see how last nights fix goes with the next round of rain coming Sat. night.

BIL works for SS in Montpelier so I don't think it'll be much trouble to get the bentonite if needed.

Yea it was right fresh outside at 4:30 when I got in the truck this morning heading in to the big factory.
