Batteries better than they used to be

You know if I say this, they'll be dead tomorrow, but I've had my White for better than 8 years and it still has the same ones in it. Shouldn't have said that, not going to be pretty.

Just changed mine last Saturday night, the one for my plow pump was dead. Lasted 9 years and 1 month. Cant complain.

The 6 year, high priced, Optima in my Ranger quit last week at one day short of 4 years, 21 below got it. Will not take a charge. You just never know.

My F250 was built in Oct. '03 and gets used alot, is cold here all winter in KY, I park outside, original battery tests good with every oil change

I'm mentioning this for nostalgia and nothing else.
Anybody under 30 probably won't remember these, but JCPenny (yea, the clothing store) used to have an automotive department. They used to have the JCPenny Lifetime Battery. Yes, it was warranted for life and at that time "lifetime" actually meant something, unlike today. I still remember seeing the commercials for these batteries advertised on TV. I'm pretty sure it was how they got you into their service department and then they sold you other things to really make money. My uncle had one in a '55 Chevy that would fail every 3-5 years and they would give him a new one. When it first came out in the 70s, the price for this battery was $49. That was a lot of money for a car battery back then, but he must have gotten 3-4 batteries before he died and the estate sold the car.

I have 3 that are 8 years old. One is in my garden tractor. All are Walmart's best batteries. Cost now is about $75.00 with exchange. I think they're guarnteed for 9 years. Hal

We had a JC Penny lifetime battery in our "74 GMC pickup. Best guarantee there was. The batteries were going for $99 when we turned our last one in, i think we went thru 4 or 5. Our truck was so rusted out I was ashamed to drive it but they swapped it out and said see you next time.

The original one in my Kubota lasted ten years. Took it back to the dealer and told them I wanted another 10 years battery and they just laughed.

I had a 1980 JD 1050 tractor and the original Yuasa battery was replaced in 1997......17 years of service.....I can"t find a Yuasa for sale, but if I could.....you can bet I"d buy them.

If when you installed a replacement battery you cleaned all the connections in your electical system, replaced the alternator/regulator, and made sure that all the electrical components were operating at their peak, then you could possibly see a replacement last as long as the original. Thats darned hard today with all the circuits on a new vehicle.

Typical Lead Acid Battery life depends to a great extent on things such as how often its used,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The amperage and duration of the loads it supplies,,,,,,,,,,How long it may set between charges,,,,,,,,,,,,How completely and correctly it gets charged when it does get charged.

Like most others Ive had good longevity in some, not so good in others grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

A good battery tender can sureeeeeeeeeeee help extend the life of a battery WELL DUH

Merry Christmas to all

Back in 1970 my dad bought a JD 140 garden tractor. Had the origional JD battery in it for 29 years. In all fairness, the JD battery was built like a tractor battery, not those toy batteries we get now in garden tractors. We used tha tractor pretty heavy, even as a booster battery when the others wouldn't start. My hats off to whoever was building the JD batteries back then. Tractor has gone thru a couple-three replacements since then. (automotive batteries)

smaller batteries that go in the front wheel drive go-cart-cars 4 cyl.ain't worth a dam ...but,the large ones ? .Well ,,,my 95 cummins club cab batteries gave me 7 yrs of service.. .. wish that them skinny plastic rocks on my JD 4020 would last just HALF that LONG,, I can get only 2 years out of a set of those skinny s--t,TRASHY, MONEY PIT ,pizpoor design JUNK!!!! ...

JC PENNY battery , YEAH -boy! , That was GREATBattery , and a heck of a deal for us guys with KEEPERCARS !....1977 ,Paid 49 bucks for my 1st one to install in my 1969 Mercury MARQUIS convertible , just rolled over 100thou miles ,,, got 2 more from Pennys at no charge before the program was discontinued some 15-20 yrs ago ,, that car is on its 2nd 429 /4V , And I witnessed the Odometer rolling over 3 TIMES.......

Thanks greenbeanman!

I looked for a local dealer back when the original battery finally died but couldn"t find one. The tractor has been gone for 5 years now....but perhaps I"ll have better luck finding a dealer now.

Exide has a good reputation as well.

Still got your receipt?
Since JCP no longer has an automotive service department, take your receipt into their store and demand that they refund your money. Either that, or have them pay for your new battery from somewhere else. If you go up the chain high enough, you'll get your money back.
