Preventive maintenance to save some grief (locking hubs)

Hey folks,
Just swapped out my cam type hubs for manual ones on my KIA Sportage. Job should heve been real simple...... One side went in about 20 minutes but the other side took the rest of the day. Had to fight with all 6 bolts and ended up cutting one and a big chunk of the cap with an angle grinder.
Save yourselves a headache and ,using a good 6PT socket, take the bolts out and smear a little grease on the shank. At least, back them out a little and squirt some wd40 or comparable in between the bolt and the cap and tighten them again. Once a year should do it. Steel bolts and the aluminum cap along with moisture isn't a very good combo and can sieze up pretty quick.

Good Luck,

Dave

Have fought the same battle with steel lug nuts on aluminum wheels. Now all my lugnuts & lug bolts are greased at every install. I don't care what MFR sez. I don't want to have a roadside fight with frozen lug nuts. Suppose a check with torque wrench occasionally would be appropriate, but I've never had a lugnut properly tightened come loose.

Neversieze is the answer. I like to use some where the Aluminum wheel fits over the hub as well, and of course I always use it on the wheel lug nuts.
