allis chalmers 190xtd head gasket

I have a 301 diesel. The sleeves are supposed to have a stand out of .002 to .005. Say I get them all to .002 to .003 stand out. Question is, (maybe a dumb one) are there thinner then stock head gaskets available? Would a thinner one give me a crack more compression? Are the gaskets even made with that much precision, to be thicker or thinner by a few thousandths?...PS...don't beat me up I just asked a question.

i had similar question about a AC D17D...i finally went with a copper head gasket and no more problems...i was looking for different thickness fire rings because my liners were all over the place on protrusion...the Victor gasket set is pretty thick...i think AGCO still has the stamped steel gaskets.

Im not an Allis mechanic but Im a Cummins mechanic. On your protrusion you want your cylinders next to each other closer.Like if one is .002 and the next is .005,it would be a lot better to be .003 next to .002 than .005.Make sense? The more mismatched your protrusion of your liners is,across the surface, the better of a chance of blowing a head gasket.Cummins is not more than .002 difference, dont know about Allis.

There might be thinner gaskets.A parts man should know.Call Agco and ask them if there are different thickness gaskets for your engine. Then if that doesnt help, see what the thickness of a Fel Pro is compared to a Victor or whatever they sell at a parts store.

I'm going to get the block machined so that each sleeve protrusion is .002 to .003. Then I was wondering if using a thinner head gasket (if available) would give it a tweak more compression. Or maybe it wouldn't make any difference....I don't know.
