I need to replace oil seal on 1955 cub PTO.I can't seem to free the set screw on the shift sleeve and fear rounding it out. Is it neccessary to remove to extract shaft or is there another way?

Capt the pto unit comes out by removing the 5 cap screws on the oil seal and bearing retainer and sliding out the entire unit. the the set screw is loosened just enough to slide the pulley off the shaft. you may have to loosen the pto shifter rod from the top of transmission.

Capt Sometimes the hardest is getting that pto lined back up. Done it few times in couple of minutes and other times 45 minutes. Good luck

Had a terrible time trying to get old seal out. It's thicker than new one and i've beat it up pretty good. hope today to get it out.I looked at Corky's pictures for reinstalling but unfortunately he doesn't show removal. My shaft doesn't have ring key to hold the bearing rather three small ears on shaft. ty for info.
