That playing in the barn was one thing we used to do for fun in the winter. We usually had a corn fodder or straw mow at the north end and there was a ladder there that went up to a landing right at the peak of the roof where the window was. We'd jump from there into the mow...straightaways first but then with somersaults and whatever as our courage picked up.
Grand-dad would say "Someday one of you guys is gonna break your neck, then you'll be satisfied". We did that about once a week 'til either winter was over or the fodder or straw was used up.
