I would like to put wider tires on the rear of my F350. I now have 235 85 16 The reason for the wider tires I'm thinking more tire on the road the more better the truck can handle, and possible handle more weight. Is this right, or wrong? What will be a wider tire with about the same height as my 235 85 16. Thanks stan

we went from 235/85 16 to 265/75 16, it"s worked for us, just about the same tire height. I do notice it"s not as stable on gravel roads though, seems to grab more and pull the truck around.

Stan, My 01 F350 DSL came with 265/76R16s I went to 285/75R16s I needed the extra width to keep the rear end planted when accelerating. I got my tires a yr ago in March, just found out this week my truck has a 80 hp Superchip in it. That was why this truck would break loose the RR tire when accelerating from 40/45 to 70 MPH to entering the Interstate HWY on dry pavement.
Anyway if your truck is 4X4 you will like itI belive. 2 wheeler... maybe just on the back! Height was of no consequense. Anyway just my thoughts, Hope this helps.

Probably will not be an issue, But, I have heard that if tires on a dually are allowed to touch sidewalls, they will self-destruct in short order..

Your mileage will go down with wider tires and if the tires are a different height, your speedo will be off. 235 does seem a little narrow for a single rear wheel 1 ton though. Dave

your load rating will have to do with how much weight it can handle always look at that if its a concern. Some tires sizes don"t have a heavier load rating so then you may have to change size to get a heavier rating. the wider the tire the less traction you will get because the same weight is spread over a wider are equaling less psi.

If it helps, what you have now are 9.25 x 32". 265 is 10.4"

So, 10.50 x 32 or 11.50x32 should do you. Have to see how wide a tire your wheel can handle and turn your wheels all the way right and left and neasure if you have the extra clearance. If you stick to a 32 inch height, you won't effect your speedometer.
