btw: i'm about halfway tween houston and san antone

because of all the stress on the plastic, you need to reinforce the repair with either some sheet steel or sheet aluminum on the back side. cut a patch to fit underneath, then drill tru the plastic and sheet metal so you can pop rivet the patch in. a good flexible adhesive will work. either plastic adhesives for autobody repair (but they are spendy) or an smc corvette panel adhesive. its a 2 part like bondo.

I got a Honda 250 big red that has the rear fenders made from a 55 gallon plastic barrell. Works good and is very tough. Might try that. DH

For all the fooling around, you can buy replacement plastic very reasonable. I paid $150 for new front fenders for an 87 Suzuki Quad Sport. Pretty sure it's Maier branded.

I purchased an older Honda Fourtrax with the plastic cracked/broken everywhere. The previous owner had made a few crude fixes. Some places he used plastic ties, other areas he pop-riveted pieces of reinforcing metal. Looked horrible. Investigated new plastic but it was pretty expensive for an older machine. Finally bought a plastic welding kit thru the internet which included several colors of plastic welding rod. The kit also included stainless mesh for areas that needed additional reinforcement. Removed all the plastic and the poor repairs. Spent several hours during the repairs with the welding iron. Looks and seems to be working OK. If you have a newer machine and want it to look perfect I would be inclined to buy new pieces. Good chance you could get your money back with a newer machine. Not a chance on this 86 model.

Might check Ebay............. I had some cracks and just mixed epoxy/gave them a good smearing. Some nice thick camo paint afterwards and not too bad.

I saw a kid that repaired his wicked little 700 suzuki I think with zipties...holes were drilled evenly and across from each other on the crack and the pieces zipped together with the tie end underneath....kinda looked like it was laced.....I would do that to mine if needed..just get the appropriate colored tie

thanx for all the ideas...i was gonna reinforce every place thats bolted with sheet metal and then glass everything with cloth underneath...it already has a real good camo paint job...so good in fact i didnt see most of the damage till i got it home...i bought it for the mechanical part anyhow...if need be i'll strip it to the frame and ride it like that...been on a Kaw Bayou 220 for the last 5 years with no body on it.
