I just got home and a letter was in the mail from a lawsuit I was in and it read "Dismissed With Prejudice" The lawyers office is closed at this time. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks

DISMISSAL WITH PREJUDICE
When a case is dismissed for good reason and the plaintiff is barred from bringing an action on the same claim. Dave

Dismissed WITH prejudice means the plaintiff can't refile the suit. Dismissed WITHOUT prejudice means the plaintiff can come back and refile the suit.

If you're the defendant, this is good news. If you're the plaintiff, it's bad news.

thanks everyone I got it figured out shortly after I posted but couldn't get back on here I was the defendant and it is funny the fist person to respond was named Dean because the other defendant was named Dean

The good gents are correct. Its sort of like a a judgment i.e. the Plaintiff has had his day in Court and isnt permitted to re litigate the same cause. In criminal law theres a bar against double jeopardy (cant be tried twice for same crime) and in civil law once a case is decided the plaintiff cant bring it again, although dont think some wish they could lol. Best I recall (got my JD way back in early nineties and wasnt good at Latin) the term is Res Judicata i.e its barred.
