Needed a kitchen sink faucet so went to our Hdepot equal to look for something. Figured to get something made in US or Germany.....Most German stuff started around 60 bucks and US higher minus supply lines. All had a 2 year send in gaurantee. Down at the end of the area was the store brand, just said manufactured for the store (name) but more than likely china. 5 year in store gaurantee (trade or repair on the spot like sears) for 15 bucks including supply lines.

Didn't take long to make that decision.......

I went to Fleet Farm to get a shovel to clean out the sand trap in my floor drain the other day.Had $20 bucks in my pocket(forgot wallet at home).China made for $15 or USA made for $21.

I left with no shovel, but still had my pride.

I spent 43 years in the plumbing wholesale business, and can tell you the best faucet being built today is a Moen. It was invented in the USA by a fellow named Al Moen and is manufactured today in Canada. You'll pay more, but you'll have a faucet that will last longer than you will and has a lifetime warranty against leaks.

I don"t know what to tell ya I built my house ten years ago, wife called me at work last week to tell me the ceiling below the upstairs bathroom was dripping so to make a long story short turns out the American Standard shower valve cracked replacement valve was made in Mexico. Say What?! Maybe it should be Mexico Standard Oh Well it"s just one of a million reasons so many people are out of work. Go figure.

Looked at some vise grips.made in China but had us prices on them.A new problem, some of the chinese made stuff is good quality at low prices.

Heard a good one the other day on satellite radio: talking about China/Walmart ... "We are buying ourselves outta our jobs"

What the caller said makes sense....Buy AMERICAN and help keep someone working.

I see today that Stanley bought Black & Decker. The outcome of that should be interesting.

Strang enough---I did basically the same thing about two weeks ago.-----Difference, I paid a much higher price when I finally found a Moen, MADE IN AMERICA.
Just felt GOOD when I left the store. Might not be any better but I will support my own!

The people in the auto industry been tellin everyone to buy American since the early 80s. Funny, now that all the jobs are gone everyone wants to get on the band wagon. I"m really happy for all the Toyota buyers. I don"t buy China junk, and I don"t shop at Wall-Mart.

I brought some wheel and tyre assemblys just before Christmas, they were 3 X 8 to make a hand cart for my wife to use in the garden. They had max pressure of 35psi on them, they blew off the rims at 15!, absolute crap, the worst thing is this junk has forced the quality stuff from the U.S.,G.B. and Western Europe off the market. If I could have got better quality up to around double the price I would have got it, but it just was not there to buy!

So who is to blame, could it be these businessmen who want cheaper items to sell at a higher margin.$$$$$

Today,on wireless , chap said he lived in China for a time and found underwear for the domestic market was of better quality than that exported.Inclined to agree when the stitching on the jocks starts to unravel within 2 weeks.

It's been going on a long time..I would buy official Harley Davidson acessories for my Harley in 1992.There were either made in Korea or China stickers on the parts..

I buy faucets that I can get parts for. Most stores don't carry Moen parts. Delta/Peerless parts are a sure thing and come with a life time warranty. And there are many delta knock off faucets made in China and the rest of the world at a fraction of the price.

Take the panels off the computer you're typing on and tell me how proud you are..............

You's prolly one of them 2 AM walmart shoppers...........

dave2,

I admit without reserve that some things are out of our control when buying or being forced(like you say you were)into buying products made in foreign countries.I don't know of a computer made in the US or Germany,so I had no choice when buying one.Now that's being forced by all meanings of the phrase.

You had a CHOICE to buy a American or German product and you TOTALLY blew it.I'm not the only one who feels this way.

No Wal-mart for me,no matter what time it is.The weirdos are out at that time!

Try a Dell.........Not much more American than Texas......... Then, pull the panels on that Baby.......

There's pride, then there's ingnorance and plain out stupidity............. Sometimes you do what's right by the situation at hand..........

How many clan members would have turned down dallying with a colored girl if noone was looking???????????

Please tell me that you went home and scooped out a hole with your hands rather than using a chink shovel...............

So Dell is mfg'd or assembled in Texas? I really don't know.

Interesting how ya throw the clan thing in............not sure what to make of that.

Anyway........Don't make me out to be the bad guy, you're the portrayed traitor in this situation.

I'm done.

Kitchen faucet is definitely one place to not scrimp. It gets used every day by someone we need to keep happy- or at least not thinking maybe we bought a cheap tool for her to use. Save some money in a bathroom or someplace else.

Personally, I like the Grohe faucets- not the ones you get at HD, but the very pricey ones you get at a plumbing supply. Nice designs and really well-constructed (I drive German cars, too). I was surprised to read from the experienced wholesaler that he considered Moen a good brand. I always thought they were a mid grade at best. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

Unless, of course, changing out faucets is your Other Hobby...

I ain't all dumm............... when it comes to getting something that she'll be using (unless it's a gift), I show her all the options and let her pick. Funny thing, we replaced a groehe with this one..... It wasn't the money, just couldn't pass up the warrenty conditions compared to preferred manufacture/origin brands.
I don't know how they do it..... the 2 supply lines that were included (and not with the preferred brands) would have cost almost as much as we paid for the whole thing.

Didn't mean to make you look bad at all. Just pointing something out.The clan example was just that, an example.Same way folks used to badmouth gypsies but still take advantage of what they offered when noone was looking. Wasn't directed towards you or anyone in particular, unlike your traitor comment. Water under the bridge though and no offense meant or taken. As for the faucet, if it outlives the 5yr warrenty and goes bad a day later, I can replace it and start over.... Could go 50 years like that for the price I would have paid for one of the other brands....... Love to buy the other stuff, but they price themselves out of business..........

Take care,

Dave

Jiles,
I'll take your word that the Moen was MADE IN AMERICA, but I wonder where the equipment used to manufacture that faucet was made. Used to be that American machine tool manufacturers ruled the world (Cincinnati-Milicron, DeVlieg, Carlton, Excello, Danly, Bridgeport, Lamb, Kearney-Trecker, Cross, etc, etc). Now, go into any factory and all you see are Asian mfrs with a few German companies sprinkled in.

Look at how many of the guys on this Forum who own Kubota. Fact of the matter is that EVERY American has some skin in the loss of manufacturing jobs in this country. Why? Because we have lined up to buy products made in OTHER countries. And why did we do that? Because the price was better when we had the choice. Nowadays, in most cases, we don't even have a choice.

As Dave2 kind of points out, the only reason that PCs are cheap enough to allow just about everyone to own at least one (many of us have multiple computers in our house) is that they and their componentry is manufactured in countries where labor costs are low. It's not only China, It's the Phillipines, Malaysia, Thailand. This applies to the entire supply chain (IC chips, screws, chassis, wire, power supplies). I'd love to see a calculation on what a PC would cost if it and ALL of its components were made in the good ole USA by UAW labor.

Nice to know that you "support your own", but it's a little late for most manufacturing companies in this country.

Problem is Toyota builds a lot of cars here in the USA, While a lot of GM cars and trucks are built in Mexico, Canada, or overseas.

I wish it was as easy as buying a name brand. I have seen WAY to many US brand things with some little "made in xxxxx" label.

One of my favorites is the "Distributed by xxxx, xx, USA" Some of those items are made God only knows where.
