rusty pto shaft

i need some ideas on how to clean up inside of pto tube i have square part of shaft pretty clean but don't know how or what to get in the square to clean
it up i haven't used this pto for a few years and has lots of rust and dirt in it i can't get square shaft to slide in it.
how can i clean this up?

I had used a piece of wood with some emery cloth glued with contact adhesive. Of course just ran it in there a good many times. I used a 60 grit cloth.

First off can you remove that part??? If you can soak in in vinegar or maratic acid for say 12 hours then wash it off with water dry in and oven if your wife will let you then do an ATF soak.

use a "fitting brush" taped to a stick.

Tape a long, skinny file to a stick with a few inches protruding beyond the stick. Far end should be square.

ATF stays out of the kitchen but I can not say it stays out of the house since I use it to clean and lube my guns

I modified a chimney sweeping brush and put it in the electric drill and swiped it in a number of times.

vinegar sounds like good idea i think i can tie tubing end so open end is up i think lower end is
closed maybe it will hold vinegar in.
this shaft is on ford manure spreader i want to get it so i can use it.
